y > x
y-x > 0 
Note reciprocal of a positive number will also be a positive number i.e  \frac{1}{(y-x )}  > 0
Also, x-y < 0 
So  \frac{1}{(y - x)} > x - y

Statement 2: 
 |x - y| > 0  
this only tells us that x and y are not equal 
we do not quite know about the signs of x and y 
So not sufficient

A is the answer IMO

IMO the answer is option A , only state 1 is sufficient and we get a definite No with this state 1

State 2 gives a yes and a no with different values . so insufficient

Is \frac{1}{(y−x)} > x−y? Stat1: y>x then, equation will be positive > Negative. Sufficient Stat2: |x−y|>0 if x >y then equation will be Negative > Positive. (No) And, if x Negative. (Yes) Not Sufficient So, I think A.

Is  \frac{1}{(y - x)} > x - y ?

(1)  y > x  --> this can be rewritten as y - x > 0 and x - y < 0, thus  (\frac{1}{y - x} = positive) > (negative=x - y) . Sufficient.

(2)  |x - y| > 0 . This statement just says that  x
eq{y} , which is clearly insufficient to answer the question. Not sufficient.

Answer: A.
