On Christmas, a class teacher gave a gift pack to each student present in a class. Each pack had x chocolates, y biscuits and z toffees. How many students were there in the class?
(1) Each student received chocolates, biscuits and toffees in the ratio 1:2:4.
(2) The class teacher distributed a total of 7 chocolates, 14 biscuits and 28 toffees and the number of students present in the class was more than 1.

(1) Each student received chocolates, biscuits and toffees in the ratio 1:2:4.
Only ratios would not be sufficient to determine counts
(2) The class teacher distributed a total of 7 chocolates, 14 biscuits and 28 toffees and the number of students present in the class was more than 1.
Since we have 7 chocolates and we are informed that the class has more than 1 student, this is sufficient.
7 cannot be broken down further apart from taking 7 students in the class. We cannot do 7/2 or 7/3 etc as 7 is a prime number. This is further complemented by the fact that we can evenly distribute 14 biscuits and 28 toffees among 7 students
