Hi All,
While studying for the exam I spent a fair bit of time on this forum so think it only right that I share my experience.
I sat the exam just over two weeks ago and got 710. I had scored 760 on GMAT Prep Practice exams 5 and 6, so was pretty disappointed. I know 710 is a very good score, and above the average for my desired B Schools, but I knew I could do better and wanted to prove to myself that I could. I scheduled another exam for 15 days later.
So here's what I did for the first 14 days - absolutely nothing. And I mean nothing. I didn't open a book, do any practice questions, review any material, no CATs. Nothing. I just forgot about it.
The night before the exam I bought my enhanced score report and was surprised to see that I had done very poorly on CR. I had been getting nearly all my CR questions right in practice exams. I had also done poorly in DS - I expected this as I never really mastered DS questions. This report was worth every penny as it made me focus more on CR questions and commit more time to them on exam day.
I spent 2/3 hrs on that last night going through some of the EMPOWERgmat videos (highly recommend this site) and practising questions to get back into "GMAT Mode". And that was it. The next morning I arrived at the exam centre and was pleasantly surprised when 760* (Q49,V45) flashed up on the screen. My IR also increased from 6 to 8.
I think this is a good example to show that you can just have an off day. I've no idea why I didn't perform on my first exam and did on the second exam. But there's a lot to be said for remaining calm and not putting yourself under pressure.
Thanks to all the contributors on this site and best of luck to everyone studying for the exam!

* GMAT Prep 100% accurate. I bought the Manhattan CATs, but only did two of them and found them to be too different to the actual tests. Now that there are 6 official practice CATs, I don't think it's necessary to buy any extra. I actually only used 5 of them.
