Finally got done with my gmat on 20th July and couldn’t have expected a better score than 780. I thought to pen down the actions that worked in my favour

Initially started with online attempts since COVID made sure centres were closed.
GMAT 1 online attempt : 730 (Q50, V39)
GMAT 2 online attempt : 720 (Q50, V35), had scheduled a morning exam. I don’t do well with waking up before 10. Same possibly contributed to the low verbal score important to schedule the exam as per your high performance time.
GMAT 3 offline attempt : 780 (Q51, V45), had to switch to an offline attempt post the limit of 2 for online

Quant
Coming from an engineering background, quant was something which was never a challenge perse but crossing the 50 score barrier still seemed elusive. To improve the same i categorised the problems into 2 buckets
- silly mistakes
If one puts in the efforts it is possible to identify the general patterns in these mistakes. For example, in my case it was mistaking diameter for radius and vice versa. Similarly I used to make an error of using the wrong units. Armed with knowledge about such mistakes, I made sure to spend extra 10 seconds on every question to not repeat such errors

- conceptual issues
To get to 51, I had an aim that there should be no question that I don’t know how to solve. The answer might be incorrect due to a silly mistake but the solving mechanism should be clear. Geometry and P&C were something which I found difficult consistently.
Gmatwithcj website as recommended by a colleague, catinabox, a fellow 770 gmat holder himself proved to be very useful. One can easily filter as per difficulty level and topics ad repeat the exercise till no question seems impossible not solve. The links are obviously to gmat club on questions which remain the best questions source :)

Verbal
Verbal was definitely my weak area.
- Sentence correction
Building a strong theoretical foundation is really important before moving onto questions. Manhattan SC prep and videos from e-gmat are two very good resources to build the same.
For questions, the site mentioned above has a very exhaustive list of questions as per topics. Many a times, an attempt might be correct because of sheer luck. It is important to look at reasons for eliminating the wrong choices as well. As I learned in my second attempt, lady luck might not always be by your side
- Reading comprehension
Much more difficult than it seems on face value. Getting more than a few incorrect will completely screw up your chances of getting a 740+ score. To counter the same, I used to practice 4-5 RC passages daily using a og/700 level filter on gmat club.
- Critical Reasoning
Identify the type of questions you feel weak in. For example, in my case they were assumption based questions. Practising negation technique on a bunch of questions worked well to convert CR into an area of strength

On an overall level, If you are getting a 750+ consistently on the gmat mocks, it makes sense to get done with the official gmat attempt as soon as possible. Delaying the same would also give you lesser time to course correct and attempt again.

Finally, Thanks to gmatclub and GMATninja/daagh (valuable explanations on forums) for providing foc quality content to all of us ! And don’t lose hope, a better score would come in time.

Congratulations!
Sober already ;) ?

Would you mind sharing the quant sources or the website you were referring to.

I've consistently scored Q51 on my 3 official mocks and also in other prep Mocks, but i suspect my score was inflated because i randomly came across those super difficult questions already ( since there are few anyway)

There is a reason why this post came after 4 days ;)

Like I mentioned on the actual attempts I scored 50 and 51. For mocks, scored 51 in the last attempt but they got over post that. The idea should be to be prepared for any topic gmat throws at you. Since you have already found a few topics which seem difficult, would suggest you do many more on that topic so that it becomes a no brainer.
The website is gmatwithcj. He has listed close to 4000 og quant questions as per category. Given this is my first post, can’t put a link here. You can google it

Congratulations for this unbelieveable score!!! :inlove: :inlove: :inlove:

Please clear a few of my doubts

1) Did you find the official mocks to be easier than the actual gmat test?
2) What was the deviation( if any) in your mock scores and actual gmat scores? If possible can you please share your mock scores?
3) Did you find test center Gmat easier than the online one?
4) Were you nervous during the exam?
5) Difficulty level of Veritas mocks compared to actual exam?

I'd be glad if you answer them :D

Thanks bud. Apart from the 6 official mocks I also gave 7 veritas mocks before my third attempt. It was more for increasing EQ for my exam and easing myself into the process

Could you please share the veritas mocks scores?

The highest I got was 740. Scored 51 consistently on quant towards the fag end of the tests. The level is definitely much more higher than the actual paper

Thanks !!!

1) Did you find the official mocks to be easier than the actual gmat test?
Yes. They are. The actual scores can be 20/30 less than the mocks. However if you are scoring consistently around 760/770, it should be a good indicator.
2) What was the deviation( if any) in your mock scores and actual gmat scores? If possible can you please share your mock scores?
Had exhausted the official mocks before my second attempt. In the last three mocks, had received 760/770/770
3) Did you find test center Gmat easier than the online one?
No difference perse. Have heard the same from my peers
4) Were you nervous during the exam?
Of course I was. But what helped ease me in was the fact that I can give this exam 2 more times in case I screw it up. Had made up my mind to exhaust all attempts till I get a good score
5) Difficulty level of Veritas mocks compared to actual exam?
Much more difficult (quant more as compared to verbal). If you are getting a 730/740 on veritas, that’s good.

Hope I answered all of them
