This is a very long post. I can see why you find data insights challenging. I think you would benefit from getting better at data insights and practicing more and helping you focus on what’s important and what is irrelevant.

Thanks for the prompt reply bb . Could you please go through this post https://gmatclub.com/forum/low-score-in ... l#p3418950 as this is a tldr version of this one. Also any specific tips to improve in DI as I am pretty confident that I am already good at it and have done tons of practice.

Your verbal is still weak, in my opinion. I’d read my CR and RC guides (on my forum profile) and stick exclusively to LSAT and OG/GMATPrep questions. Ignore all unofficial sources, as they can cause you to form bad habits. The good news is that you’ve shown that you can achieve a good score — it’s now a matter of refining some of those points just a little more and handling your nerves on test day.

Good luck!

My 2-cents
1) Acknowledging the weakness is the first step towards improving it
2) Tons of practice doesn't ensure that you are good at it and have done enough. Practising with improved performance is the way forward.

Two times IR-5 speaks the same which is, probably you have done a lot of practice but have missed focusing on what to improve and how to improve.

In case, the above deduction is wrong, you should certainly consider retaking and getting a score that you truly deserve.

All the best!

Oh..almost a year of GMAT prep and still nowhere close to the target score. I can only imagine your frustration.

You got a 95% in DI in the official mock and 20% in DI in the actual exam. This is really puzzling.

1) I think I made a lot of silly mistakes in the DI exam.
2) I was not able to complete the last questions in DI due to which I was heavily penalised.

Thanks will try to dig in deeper and improve specifically the topics I am weak in. Surprisingly my DS was a strong point but I made 4 mistakes in the same. Posted the ESR here - https://gmatclub.com/forum/low-score-in ... l#p3418950

Hi manrasingh,

When students struggle with DI questions, the first thing I always ask is whether they have fully completed their quant and verbal prep. Not doing so can really affect how well you handle DI questions, as many of those questions involve quantitative and verbal concepts. So, would you say you are in that boat?

In addition, one way to improve each individual DI question type is to engage in topical practice. Doing so lets you pinpoint your weak areas in JUST ONE question type. For example, when practicing TPA questions, perhaps you see a pattern that you struggle with 3-part ratios or weighted averages. If you can find those micro weaknesses, you can fix them in real-time and thus improve your accuracy in DI questions..

Lastly, when working on DI questions, for the time being, make sure to practice them untimed so you can focus on JUST accuracy. As you become more familiar with these question types and get more accurate, better timing will follow.

Feel free to reach out with any additional questions..

Hi ScottTargetTestPrep
1. Yes my Quant and Verbal Prep is completed. I am good at Quants and with repeated practice gotten better at Verbal. In fact, my mock test 2 scores were Q90/V79/DI83 . On the final day my scores were, Q85/V80/DI69

2. Yeah I have done that but surprisingly made a lot of silly mistakes in the exam in DI (especially in DS - it being a strong part), refer https://gmatclub.com/forum/low-score-in ... l#p3421883 for ESR analysis

3. Thanks will keep that in mind. Generally given enough time I am able to do all DI questions. However, I sometimes tend to take a lot of time in one/odd question which leads to time mismanagement. Same happened on the exam as I could not attempt last 2 questions (probably the reason I was heavily penalised)

I am bit confused by reading your debrief statement that DS questions on word problems were something new and you were not prepared for those.

As you also mentioned in your debrief that you gave 2 official focus mocks for practice, it is very hard to believe that you have not faced any DS question on word problem in official focus mocks.

Was 685 score achieved in reattempt of focus mock or was it your fresh mock attempt? Please clarify about this

1. The mock #2 was a fresh mock attempt. I was able to do 15/20 questions in this.
2. My main strategy was using Forum Quiz and in there the DS Word Problems were a little different I think. Anyway, me underperforming in the exam was not just because of DS, I messed up by not being able to complete the last 2 questions as well. Other silly mistakes were made as well. It also seems like you were in a lot of hurry, towards the beginning of DI. You spent just 1-1.5 minutes on your first two DI questions, getting both of them wrong. This is obviously not a good news, considering the adaptive nature of the exam.

There is something more that I find puzzling. Since you got the first two questions wrong, the third question should have been quite easy. While you did get it right, you spent almost 5 minutes on it!

Perhaps GMAT algorithm has different "adaptive curve" for each question type within DI. Can someone confirm this?

I would add that having started prep last August, it is going to be tough to pull this off.
My biggest recommendation would be to make your retake more compact (if you are going to retake) and do it within a month or two.

My second suggestion is to create small goals. It must easier to help someone who needs to improve in Assumption questions rather than someone who needs to improve 150 points on the GMAT and does not know where to start.
