Questions-
1. What should be my ideal score?
665+
Quote:
2. Any suggestion to make my profile better?
Focus on GMAT, especially considering that you have slightly lesser experience. Note that articleship does not count towards fulltime experience.

3. What are the chances of me getting in ISB if I have a score around 650?
Around 650 might be a bit insufficient, especially in view of your modest academics score in graduation.

Hi Everyone

I needed a bit guidance on how should I go about with my preparation for ISB

To give a bit overview I currently have 2 years of experience in financial services industry as a Research and Investment Analyst and have cleared all three Levels of CFA

I have 92.2% in in 10th, 94.17% in 12th and 9.55 CGPA in Bachelor’s translated to around 89%

I haven’t started preparing for GMAT but gave one of the GMAT club mocks and score around 615

I plan to apply for round 1

How should I start preparing and what kind of coaching should I take and what marks should I aim for

Also someone told me apart from this I will also have to focus on social services and charity work to have my profile stand out as a lot of people at ISB have CFA so won’t help in differentiating

Any kind of help will be very useful in my preparation towards it

Thank you

You already have a strong base profile for ISB.

Excellent academics, CFA charterholder status, and relevant finance experience put you in a good position even before GMAT prep starts.

Your current mock of 615 is actually a decent starting point if you haven’t prepared seriously yet. I believe you can target GMAT Focus: 685+

Don’t randomly collect certifications or activities just for applications. Especially since many candidates do them for the sake of applications and its just noise.

Social impact helps only if it is genuine and consistent. Panel can easily understand if it's for the sake of application or out of genuine interest.

CFA already differentiates you positively, especially combined with strong academics

Biggest differentiator now will be GMAT, quality of work impact, clarity of goals and how you weave your story therfore communication/storytelling

For prep: there are a ton of resources out there and I will just say one or 2 things

This is an exam that's best cracked with full momentum and instead of solving more try to introspect more on your mistakes.

Overall, with 685+ and solid execution in essays/interviews, you’ll be a competitive ISB applicant.

That is really helpful

If you don’t mind would you be able to recommend some resources

As I was planning to take Jamboree’s self paced GMAT preparation batch if you have any knowledge about that or any other resources which might help better would be really helpful give that I am working right now as mentioned above and am also simultaneously preparing for CAT so what kind of resources should I go for

Hi ShiftPuma, since you are new to GMAT, following video will quickly bring you up to speed on GMAT.

Also, you might want to give an an official free mock test (at mba.com) to baseline yourself. These tests are considered the most representative.

Well, if you get (say) a 635+ on the official mock test, you might not need any coaching at all! 665+ would be a good score to aim for.

Take CAT and GMAT together is one of the mistakes that candidates pay heavily for...

I think it’s best that you be decisive of what you goal is and work 100% for it.

you have ample time for CAT keeping in mind that exam is in November and GMAT prep requires only 3-4 months (ideally)

To choose any self paced course check the free access and assess whether it suits to your requirements.

Hi ShiftPuma,

You seem to have a competitive profile for ISB overall. Your academics are solid, though the key factor will be the depth, scale, and impact of your professional experience. Try to refine your post-MBA goals further and build a sharper narrative around why an MBA makes sense at this stage of your career.

A GMAT Focus score in the 685–695 range would place you in a strong position, and scoring around 615 in mocks is definitely an encouraging starting point.

For extracurriculars, quality and consistency matter far more than quantity. Admissions committees usually value sustained involvement and genuine impact over activities started only a few months before applications.

All the Best!

GradOcean, Please help me reviewing my profile. I would appreciate if you guys can help with my profile. I am not from any elite college. The purpose to do MBA is - I just want to make my life better.

1. How much score will I need?
2. I want to continue in Supply chain only, which one would be suitable college for me in India?

12th(State board): 65.8
Grad: 73.2 (B. Tech CSE - 2014 pass out - Tier 3 college)

Work Experience Breakdown (9 years)

Tech Mahindra: 9 months [Associate]
Concentrix: 6 months [Associate]
Teleperformance: 2 months [Associate]
Zomato(associate): 3 years 4.5 months [Got promoted to Senior associate - quality] – LAY OFF
]Jiyyo: 1 month [Manager Quality Assurance Analyst] – LAY OFF
Citymall: ~1 year 2 months [Team Leader]
Blinkit: Present [Operations Lead]

I did graduation in CSE but due to inflation I entered as a customer support executive and then my journey started.

Thanks in advance.

However, I am not sure if this is the right place to ask. Please guide me where to ask if this not the right place.

Your academics are below average and the frequent switches/layoffs will raise questions for which you need to have a good narrative.

But your profile also shows resilience, adaptability, and real operational experience in fast-paced consumer/logistics businesses.

The good part is that you already have meaningful experience in operations and supply chain through companies which is valuable for supply chain roles.

Having said that the average work experience for ISB PGP hovers around 4 to 5 years. Meaning you will be an outlier. You could consider other courses such as PGPX, EPGP, MBAEX, IPMX etc. Where the average workex of cohort is slightly higher .

Target GMAT Focus: 675+, this will counteract the lower 12th %.

Most important thing for you will be Showing career progression despite setbacks, Positioning layoffs correctly, Building a strong “operations/supply chain leadership” story

Your journey itself can become your strength if presented properly.

Lastly, you need to have a clear reasoning of what you want out of MBA at this point in time of your career.

Hi,

Your profile appears reasonably competitive, but I’m not fully clear on the exact nature, scale, and impact of your work experience within the supply chain domain. Try to define your post-MBA goals more clearly, as they currently come across as somewhat broad and underdeveloped.
Frequent job switches could also become a concern during the evaluation process, so it would be important to address them thoughtfully and cohesively in your essays and overall application narrative.

For ISB, targeting a GMAT Focus score around 675 would strengthen your competitiveness. For IIM A/B/C one-year MBA programs, a benchmark around 645 can be considered reasonably competitive depending on overall profile quality.

All the Best!

Happy to connect if you’d like to discuss your profile in more detail.
