I gave GRE movk and I felt GRE is easier than GMAT, reason being I am weak at quant, GRE quant is easy.

Speaking about verbal, I felt its more about mugging vocab than Gmat type of logical reasoning where you really cant decide between 2 answer choices. Logic becomes extremely tricky so much so that you can’t convince why right answer is right.

I can be good with AW, coming from law background it helps in essays.

Is there anyone who experienced it for verbal?

I felt verbal is more straightforward. Vocab heavy but no unexplainable logic heavy

ShiftPuma You seem to have a good start in your career. What are your goals? If your work is largely in a non client facing or internal finance role, then research carefully how to position your experience and what post MBA goals would be the most logical extension of your skills. If not, then great. Also, you do not need to force social impact contributions right before applying. Schools usually see through that.
General observation, in case it applies to your research work experience: I have noticed with my mentees from equity research, financial research and backend analytical finance roles that they eventually realize proximity to finance is not always the same as proximity to decision making. People can become extremely technically strong in internal finance environments while still remaining one layer removed from those actually deploying capital, negotiating transactions or driving investment theses commercially. Your role may still build sophisticated market judgment and can absolutely become strategic within corporate finance leadership tracks. But if your long term aspiration is highly competitive buy side style investing exits, then at some stage you may need to move closer to externally facing capital allocation and transaction environments because that distinction matters a lot in recruiting. Therefore focus more on your goals strategy than the social services angle.

Best wishes

Hi Everyone

I needed a bit guidance on how should I go about with my preparation for ISB

To give a bit overview I currently have 2 years of experience in financial services industry as a Research and Investment Analyst and have cleared all three Levels of CFA

I have 92.2% in in 10th, 94.17% in 12th and 9.55 CGPA in Bachelor’s translated to around 89%

I haven’t started preparing for GMAT but gave one of the GMAT club mocks and score around 615

I plan to apply for round 1

How should I start preparing and what kind of coaching should I take and what marks should I aim for

Also someone told me apart from this I will also have to focus on social services and charity work to have my profile stand out as a lot of people at ISB have CFA so won’t help in differentiating

Any kind of help will be very useful in my preparation towards it

Thank you

ShiftPuma - some more details can help assess your profile better e.g. your undergrad university, which company do you work in, key achievements/ projects at work, any promotions, career goals, etc.

Since your work-ex is a bit on the lower side, aim for a 685+ on the GMAT, with a balanced sectional split.

axeofflane - interesting profile overall.

The GMAT score seems slightly on the lower side for ISB, was the score in-line with your mocks and is there scope to improve if you were to retake?

Also, the career goals would need introspection/ brainstorming, to sound convincing and practical.

Arvind

Do you wonder:

1. When do people actually start working on their applications?
2. How do candidates with relatively low GMAT/GRE scores still secure admits?
