Hi. I am planning to give the GMAT in 3 weeks. Yesterday I did the free GMAT club mock and got 615 (v82q82di78) In the official mocks which I had given around Jan i was getting a bit less 555(q77v81di74). I want to improve DI to 79 80 range. Suggestions please

Hi ajaynandakumar7,

Looks like you are making improvements.
I would suggest focusing more specifically, not just DI as some mystical creature, but Word Problem DS for example or TPA questions or others. That's much more tangible.

Your improvement is quite significant and impressive.

I would say that you are very close to your target score in DI and it should be possible to achieve the target and go beyond it if you used more granular approach towards improving your performance in that section by looking at what is your strong suit and what is weak one.

Capitalizing on Strong suits is important in last minutes unless you have all strong parts won...

However, What comes to my attention is that you are not stressing much in Quant where I see a significant room for quick improvement. I think you should have more wholistic approach as it's the total score that matters whether it comes from Quant or from Verbal.

Being structured in your practice is very important for DI:

As you look at which questions you are getting wrong or taking too long on:
1. Notice the data formats that give you the most trouble. Then go back and focus on getting better at understanding the structure and presentation of the data.
2. Look at lots of examples of tables, graphs, line charts etc. to get more comfortable with each one.

Narrow your prep focus to data types that are giving you problems with timing or interpretation.

When students struggle with DI questions, the first thing I always ask is whether they have fully completed their quant and verbal prep. Not doing so can really affect how well you handle DI questions, as many of those questions involve quantitative and verbal concepts. So, would you say you are in that boat?

In addition, one way to improve each individual DI question type is to engage in topical practice. Doing so lets you pinpoint your weak areas in JUST ONE question type. For example, when practicing TPA questions, perhaps you see a pattern that you struggle with 3-part ratios or weighted averages. If you can find those micro weaknesses, you can fix them in real-time and thus improve your accuracy in DI questions..

Lastly, when working on DI questions, for the time being, make sure to practice them untimed so you can focus on JUST accuracy. As you become more familiar with these question types and get more accurate, better timing will follow.
