I am a Wharton alum, and I would be happy to answer questions and help. Essay Analysis & Comments I have been approached by quite a few prospective candidates asking for advice on "what's best to write for Wharton", i.e. what would the school want to hear. My personal view, reinforced by what has worked for me is to decide on what parts of YOURSELF and YOUR story you want to showcase the most, i.e. what makes you unique and valuable, and deliver that using some creative writing. The question then becomes not that of execution, because good execution does not stand in the way. The only thing that matters is then whether YOU are indeed valuable and unique. What makes you valuable and unique? My personal agenda during school visit would've always been "schmooze till you drop" in all the buildings there are. Have a plan before you go: names, classes, visits, conversations, meetings, coffee, events after classes, etc. I have been reviewing alot of veteran candidate essays and I think the key to essays is to keep things simple, honest, and compelling. There is no magic formula and the more "consultants" tell us to sprinkle in examples here and there, the more of the human element you lose. I agree it is important to show the diversity of your experiences, but I believe is is most important to reveal the person you are, your core values, and how you interact with people, resolve conflict, improve, and work to help others. After being here for nearly 2 months, I can already tell how the admissions process reflects the learning team model. Of course they want great candidates, but they are evaluating your leadership charactertistics - how do you resolve conflict, handle intense emotional events? are you conscientious aka do you step up for your team and help to resolve interpersonal disputes? are you comfortable in a variety of roles from leading to filling a supporting role? how far will you go to help your team achieve their goals? do your goals spring from your personal story and values? have your past actions matched up with your goals? what kind of personal impact do you bring here. it is alot less about filling out a formula and a lot more about openness, integrity, and telling your compelling personal story rather than impressing the committee with accomplishments i firmly believe the class is not selected solely according to accomplishments, but by selecting the best people who will create the strongest community/environment with the best possible longevity aka alumni network i know the process sucks, and you guys/girls are stressed but after you craft your essays, take a second and look at how those essays reveal who you are, what makes you tick, focus on leadership but remember leadership has many components liek the ones i referred to - openness, conscientiousness, emotional reactivity, etc PM me if you need any help, I was in your shoes last year, i definitely didnt have the most impressive stats but used my experiences to create a brand around leadership and values and it paid off Application Submission Confirmation Text Last interview questions : https://poetsandquants.com/2010/11/21/l ... al-issues/

Hard to get excited after the HBS results today but hopefully Wharton will be better.

I would love to know this too. Can someone help us? I'm practicing with last year questions... Should I not?

I think it would be best to keep the stories for the last year's behavioral questions ready but I doubt that they will use the exact same questions. It would be prudent to have an inventory of stories that cover qualities that Wharton values - innovation, global perspective, diversity, etc., etc.

I can imagine the frustation that those not invited are feeling. In the same boat for Stanford, Kellogg, and Yale. But the way I see it, no amount of statistical analysis really matters. Whether there are 50% invites yet to be sent out or 0.5%, what matters on which pile the Adcom places my application. I doubt statistics determine the pile I will land up in, considering both me and my app are unique (atleast I hope they are). StanU, say you love me too

Just say 'Go Wharton!!' and power through it.. That's all matters.. An admit from Wharton is worth more than a hundred rejects (I kept telling myself that after a Columbia reject) ... Btw got an invite from Booth as well...

Congrats Ironhide... I agree with what you said about Wharton... am done with my Ross interview and now feeling so helpless. Nothing more to do but wait and wait.

Btw, Ironhide, you done with your Stern App??? Am finding it so difficult to wind up the essay. Essay 3 is just killing me.

I am delaying Stern to R2. Will apply if I don't make it through Wharton/Booth. Not able to spend time on it and I would rather prepare for my interviews than work on apps. Have been travelling since days and returned to base today itself.

Anyone applied to HKS/Wharton MBA and got an invite? I've noticed that only one HC got an invite and there 8 of them in this pool. Maybe they left the "difficult" applicants for the last day? Just guessing... Going crazy right now. Especially considering that 50% of international applicants got an invite already...
