I was also wondering how they are going to make final decisions based on interviews. But let's have a little survey, so we can see later how much our interviews affected admissions results.

A. On the scale of 10 how well did you connect with your interviewer? (1 - absolutely did not connect with my interviewer, 10 - i felt the interviewer and I were incredibly engaged).

B. On the scale of 10 how do you feel about your behavioral stories? (1 - my stories were either dull or I had hard time expressing myself clearly, 10 - my stories were incredibly vivid, so that my interviewer would probably share them with his/her friends over a cocktail party).

Also, let's add who was the interviewer (2nd year student, ad-com, Skype with adcom, etc).

My results would be:
Adcom
A: 9
B: 7

2nd year student.

A: 4 (I didn't connect with my interviewer. She was shy and very different background. Very nice, but didn't connect much).
B: 8

It seems like you guys really connected with your interviewers? It's the luck of the draw, I guess.

PS: My interview was on the 17th so would request someone more evolved to please calculate the standard deviation of these self reported scores as a function of the interview date!

A: 4 (i felt my interviewer was disengaged at times... maybe tired of hearing similar stories)
B: 5 (felt stories were average... I had a hard time expressing myself as I really wasn't feeling well that day)

I'm hoping for a miracle. Definitely didn't do as well as I would've liked.

I just got back from my interview today with a 2nd year student. The 3 questions asked were the same as what has been detailed elsewhere here and on the ClearAdmit wiki. My interviewer almost didn't seem to care what I said for the "Walk me through your resume" piece since he only took notes (a copious amount) on the behavioral questions. What threw me off a bit was that he didn't ask any followup questions to my answers. I couldn't tell if this was a bad or good sign (did I hit all the relevant points or did he just not care if I screwed up?), since my interviewer was impossible to read.

The interview was also very quick - 25 minutes. I felt bad for those who had to travel all the way to Philly for such a short evaluation. I'm also not sure how Wharton would use their style of interview to differentiate between admit and deny decisions - as others have said, it felt more suited to be a "checkmark" and nothing much more.

Overall, the experience (interview + class visit later that day) was very neutral, and didn't really sway my interest level in either direction.

I had a minor in business in college and took two calculus classes, accounting, finance (including advanced finance classes), operations, marketing. Statistics is a part of the CFA curriculum. Still clueless about what I can do... Thanks for suggestion though!

I would call and ask them about it. That kind of sounds like a mistake to be honest. Pretty sure the CFA curriculum is more difficult than most quantitative classes you would take in an MBA program. And your quant GMAT score is higher than mine and I didn't get that email...

Yes, I think I will call them. Just wondering whether any other non-quantitative-major folks got the same e-mail?

Hi Nikini, did you find out what's going on? i also received this email last wk.

I had my interview a few weeks back and my experience was very pleasant. My interviewer was a second year student who started the interview a bit early, explained the process and we went right into the questions. Because I knew what most of the questions would be I made sure to kill two or three birds with one stone (this is my advice to those who have yet to complete an interview). That allowed us to get into several behavioral questions. On a few occasions my interviewer pressed me for details but I didn't take it as an attempt to poke holes through my story; rather it was an opportunity to understand my thought process and assess my development over time.

Overall I felt we made a good connection. Towards the end I received some feedback in terms of what they thought were some of the unique contributions I could bring to the Wharton community. The interview went about 40 minutes.

In providing advice for those out there that have not interviewed yet I would underscore one important point. Be yourself and be honest about your strengths and weaknesses. No interviewer likes an arrogant self-absorbed a**hole who thinks just because he/she pushed pencils on a $250million dollar deal they are entitled to an ivy league education. You're not in undergrad anymore where you're surrounded by people of varying intellectual abilities. EVERYONE interviewing at these schools is smart -- but not everyone is humble.

Just want to add to the comment above.

First, let me be clear: i am applying to 3 schools and Wharton is my 3rd choice out of all 3. That said, I had the complete opposite experience to the person above when I went for a visit to the school. I found that of all places I had been to the Wharton student body seemed the most sociable and the place seemed like a lot of fun.

I found everyone helpful and although I agree that Philly isn't the greatest city in the world i actually found the campus quite pristine and picturesque

Everyone is entitled to their opinion I guess, but wanted to give mine as well

Hope this is helpful

I can definitely relate to some of the points raised. I had a hard time arriving at the interview place and the 'basement' wasn't that attractive at all, specially compared to the state-of-the-art facilities at other b-schools.

And yes, it was China town meets little India. But, that could be said of the whole of Penn and not just Wharton. I was also the only one interviewing on my timeslot that wasn't in finance or consulting. And most hailed from NYC.

My interview was short and felt mechanical since the poor 2nd year student had probably been asking and hearing about the same topics for a while. But it wasn't unpleasant. I'm very outgoing and my interviewer was more reserved and shy but I'm not sure that's necessarily a bad thing.

I didn't interact with other students at events because I had been to Penn in the past and some of my close friends went to Wharton. I know what the students are like already and I just wanted to be done with my interview to fly back home.

My opinion is that nor Wharton or Penn are places that 'wows' you at first sight as HBS, for example, does.
However, I'd say my experience was simply neutral. Wharton is a strong school and I'd choose to go there over any other except for HBS and maybe S.

Fit might be very important when looking at smaller programs but I think there's a place for everyone at Wharton and it's somewhat natural not to fall in love with the school or Philly at first sight.

I agree with mpg and somewhat with the other angry poster. There's definitely not a WOW factor but I think that the students themselves really make Wharton an awesome place. I was a little dismayed that 1) they don't let you get online as a guest, and 2) they share huntsman with all the college kids. There was a point when classes ended that I didn't know who was actually a b-school student and who was an undergrad.

My interviewer and I didn't have that much in common but her field was something that I'm pretty interested in and she had a lot of great experiences to share. Outside of that, the interview itself was very mechanical (she even said at one point that "these are some mandatory questions i need to ask you.." and just jumped into it. More than anything, it almost felt like I was trying to be overfriendly to compensate for the lack of natural conversation. Either way, I think they just take your stories and add them to the file. I'm sure the interviewers can distinguish whether you're a person they'd want to be in a class with, but I dont' think it's as "science-y" as the way HBS conducts their interviews. I did meet a few other interviewees in their waiting room. It's a very small world to say the least as we all were probably one degree of separation from one another.

Glad it's done though!

I'm having my phone interview this Thursday and this is what written in the email: "A member of the Admissions Committee will call you at the time below."

At the risk of sounding stupid, I believe that means a proper AdCom member and definitely not a 2nd year student? Just want to make sure because depending on who the interviewer is, the questions I'll ask will be different.

Thanks!

My experience was okay, I agree that the on campus interview suite was confusing to find and the building was really old and slightly creepy. The actual admissions office is nice though, and the folks there were SUPER friendly and accommodating. I interviewed on one of the first days of on campus interviewing and my interviewer was really really nice/engaging - perhaps because he had not yet endured hours upon hours of asking the same questions and likely hearing very similar responses?

The city of Philly is what it is. I think it would be fun to live there as a Wharton student, because the community seems very close-knit and from what I hear the majority of students live in the same 5-6 buildings within just a few blocks of each other. Plus, train ride to NYC is less than an hour and a half! I imagine a lot of kids probably travel there on weekends since I don't think they have class on Friday and there's probably a lot of recruiting-related things happening there too.
