Bumping this to the top...since the R1 deposit date is Feb 27, does anyone think we'll see any movement from the WL before then?
Hey Huntzman....been a while...
I reckon there are 2 kinds of waitlisters:
1. Back-ups for admits - These would probably not hear till the folks they are backing up for reject Wharton
2. Where Wharton is holding out for better,ie, they feel may be something better may come along in round 2. These folks MIGHT hear from Wharton after they are done reviewing round 2 applications.
Well this may well be wishful thinking....
HBS has a class size of around 910 people in one year and wharton has a class size around 865 people in one year. They roughly accept similar number of applicants over the year. From Businessweek profile for Harvard and Wharton, we can calculate that Wharton accepts more applicants than Harvard.
I have checked the facebook pages for Wharton MBA class of 2014 and HBS MBA Class of 2014. There are only 150 members for Wharton MBA class of 2014 up till now and HBS has 372 members for HBS MBA Class of 2014. Wharton has significantly lower number of people on its facebook page as compared to HBS. Looking at these numbers it seems that Wharton has accepted lower number of applicants in Round 1 and is keeping people on waitlist in order to look at the quality of Round 2 applicants and also increase its Yield factor which is an important factor in ranking.
I am hoping for the best for all of the Waitlisters. I don't know whether my analysis is right but looking at the numbers it seems like that.
