Hi Guys, Please evaluate my profile
Indian Male, 29 years
UG: Bachelor of Fashion Technology (specialisation in Fashion & Apparel Production) - National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi (consistently ranks top in Asia among its Peer colleges)
Though not a large pool, the number of NIFT-ians has been consistently increasing to top B Schools.PG: Masters in HRM from XLRI with CGPA 6.5
Be prepared to show in your application why you need a 2nd MBA, especially after one from a tier-1 school in IndiaGMAT: 720 (Q49, V39)
The GMAT though good, is below par for likes of Sloan, considering your Indian background. Consider a retake if possible, What other schools are you applying to?GPA: 6.9/10, among the top 25% of the batch (4 as per mba.com conversion table)
No need to convert- let the transcripts show the grade. If top 25% of the class- it could be of help.Additional Coursework:
- Business Analytics Specialisation (4courses + 1 capstone project), Wharton Online
- Business Stats with R, Duke University online
- Product Management Foundation - Darden University online
Good but make sure you show how these are relevant to your long term plans and the B School application.Work Experience: 4 years
Industry: Indian Conglomerate -Aditya Birla Group (1.5 years, worked in HR & Project Management as part of management rotation program across Fashion Retail and Manufacturing) + Entrepreneurship (2.5 years)
In my experience with Aditya Birla Group, got an opportunity to work on a global assignment in the US as well.
In your detailed post the least information available is around your work ex. This is a bit surprising as the strength of work ex probably plays the biggest role in the application. Also, die to lack on the nature of your work (especially in entrepreneurship), career progress, key achievements, it is tough to not only judge the quality but also whether you have suitable experience to achieve the said goals. A school will look at a strong narrative that ties your past and an MBA to your future goals.Extra-curricular Activities:
- Adventure Sports, have done multiple treks, hope to conquer the Himalayas someday.
- Huge comics nerd, and have been involved in comics strip design in college days
- Actively participated in sports, winning few medals at the university level.
- Was part of various clubs like the Social and Editorial club. Also managed crucial fests and engagements at UG level.
Some of these sound good. More than a laundry list focus on showcasing personal motivation, impact and contribution in these activities. Also how have these made you a better person/professional/candidate.Community Service:
- Have been involved in multiple NGOs throughout my career in space of education. Presently involved (as an advisor) with a leading organization working to improve livelihood access to the young marginalised girls.
COuld be useful if presented well.Post MBA Goals: Looking to get into strategy consultancy/Technology (Product) Firm
As mentioned earlier, your post does not make clear whether this is a realistic goal, so tough to comment. The school will look at how clear and realistic your goals are. Also, why can't you do this on your own (without an MBA)Long-Term vision: To start tech product firm in space of Fashion/Retail in India. I see immense opportunity in India and hope to leverage business expertise & network I will get from a consultancy/Tech experience beside of course MBA alumni strength.
Again, link to you past experience and transferable skills need to be established. Plus if your aim is to build a firm in India, why a US education and specifically why Sloan (not my questions- but give compelling answers to these in your written application.
Best
