Hi JonAdmissionado

I'd very much appreciate it if you could go over my profile below and give me some advice for preparing for the upcoming application cycle. Thanks in advance!

I took the GMAT again 2 weeks ago. Below are my scores from my 1st and 2nd attempt. I'd like to know what my chances are at top 30 business schools such as UNC, Rice and UT Austin. I only sent scores before my 2nd attempt to these schools because I felt confident. I will be applying in R1 and R2 of the next application cycle. Below you'll find scores from both attempts.

I am considering taking the GMAT one last time and then take the GRE.
Do you have any advice for me at this stage before completing my application?
What are my chances of entry at a top30 business school?

Thanks in advance!

GMAT 1 AWA 5.5 / IR 5 / Q 47 / V 28 / 620
GMAT 2 AWA 4.5 / IR 7 / Q 48 / V 28 / 640

I was extremely disappointed with my score because I dedicated more time to the verbal section in my preparation than the quant. I am hoping that since I speak English as a second language and coming from an underrepresented country at US business schools that I might have a better chance.

A little bit about myself:

Age: 30
Middle-eastern nationality
Unique life experience (cancer survivor during my undergraduate years)
Undergraduate Masters of Engineering from top UK university (Sent transcripts to a US education consultant company to provide an equivalent GPA grade - result: 3.28)
4 years WE in construction industry - mega projects
Volunteering at local cancer hospital - member of a patient support group (ties in with own experience)
Likes travelling - been to 26 countries on 5 continents. Lived in 4 countries.

Hey there,
And good to hear from you!

First about the GMAT; Yes, you have to retake. There is a direct corollary between hours spent on the GMAT and final score, and you just won't get into top programs with a 640. So that is your main mission for the next months. I'd say plan a mid-June retake, and make sure you are doing at least an hour a day of GMAT training.

For the rest I'd LOVE to help you out and get down with your profile.

The thing is I am missing detail.

I need a LOT more info from you - school name, employer name, titles, promotions, greatest achievements, volunteer work, sports, community service, religious involvement, leadership.. etc. before I can give you a real evaluation.

It will also be very helpful if you can elaborate upon your goals.

Have a look at some of the other very detailed profile requests on this board and do something similar and I'll be happy to get back to you.

Best,
JF

I hope this helps! And feel free to drop us a line for a free consultation.

Hi
Thanks for your reply. I agree with you that I need a better GMAT score. I've kept track of the 80% GMAT range and the average GMAT score of the schools I'm considering and although I am close to the lower end of the range I'm sure I'd have better chances if I get a score closer to the average. The schools I'm looking at have an average GMAT of about 680-700 so I'm not too far off.

I would like to elaborate on my story as I believe I have a unique background. I think I will either send you a PM with my information or sign up for a consultation with you.

Thanks again for the opportunity! I really appreciate any advice you can give me :)
