Your profile has a real story at its center: nine years building expertise from INR 500 per lecture to a profitable founder-led venture, with a career pivot that actually makes strategic sense. The challenge is that adcoms will read several competing signals at once, and your job is to control which one dominates.
• The 6.5 GPA from a distance-mode private university is the single hardest data point to manage, and it will screen you out algorithmically at some programs before a human reads your file. Your Class 12 record and CA IPCC clear are genuine counterweights, but only if you contextualize them explicitly: the GPA reflects a period when you were working full-time to support yourself, not a measure of academic capacity. That framing needs to appear in the optional essay at every school, not just be implied.
• A 695 Focus sits roughly at the Classic 640 to 650 equivalent, which is below the floor for M7 and most European elite programs (LBS, INSEAD, HEC medians cluster around Focus 675 to 685). A retake is not optional here, it is structural. Hitting 715 to 725 Focus would cross into the competitive band for strong merit-scholarship programs; 735-plus opens ISB's scholarship pool and Europe's second-tier more meaningfully. Three to four focused weeks on your DI section, which is your softest subscore, is where the marginal gain is most accessible.
• The consulting goal is reachable but the path matters. "Management consulting in education" is a real practice, and firms like EY-Parthenon, Bain's social impact practice, and boutiques focused on EdTech do recruit for it. However, framing the goal as a clean switch to MBB will read as underprepared given your background. The more credible and differentiated arc is: founder-operator with 9 years of P&L and student-outcomes data, targeting strategy and growth roles in education or EdTech at scale, with consulting as an alternative entry point. That story actually makes you memorable rather than one more career-switcher.
• For scholarship-first targeting, programs with documented histories of funding non-traditional profiles and entrepreneurial candidates include Warwick, Manchester, Cranfield, and Durham in the UK; Vlerick and Audencia in Europe; and ISB in India if you hit their score band. ESADE and IE offer strong merit aid but expect a competitive GMAT. One-year European programs reduce your total funding gap significantly and make near-full scholarships more financially meaningful than the same percentage at a two-year US program.

Hello everyone — I’m hoping to get an outside review of my MBA profile for the 2027 intake. I would appreciate honest feedback on school selection, scholarship chances and career-goal positioning.Age/Gender: 28, Male
Nationality: IndianGMAT Focus: 695 — Q88, V84, DI81 - Last mock score
I am open to retaking the GMAT if a higher score would significantly improve my scholarship prospects.Undergraduate Education- Bachelor of Commerce, graduated in 2018
- Private university in Northeast India
- Off-campus/distance mode
- CGPA: 6.547/10
My undergraduate CGPA is one of my major concerns. However, my earlier academic record was significantly stronger:- Class 10: 10/10 CGPA
- Class 12: 95.4%, including 98/100 in Economics
- Consistently among the top five students in Class 12
Alongside college, I also:- Cleared CA IPCC Group I
- Cleared CS Executive
- Secured third place in a business quiz at a reputed Indian university
- Participated in intercollegiate debates
I did not clear the subsequent levels of CA and CS.Work ExperienceApproximately 8–9 years in the education and test-preparation sector by the time of matriculation.I started working while completing my undergraduate degree.2018–2019: Faculty at a national test-preparation institute- Started as a part-time faculty member earning approximately INR 500 per lecture
- Taught quantitative aptitude, mathematics and logical reasoning for law and management entrance examinations
- Was later moved into a permanent role
2019: Faculty across multiple centres in Mumbai- Taught reasoning, general knowledge and entrance-examination strategy across approximately five centres
- Mentored students who secured admission to leading law colleges and National Law Universities
- Also gained exposure to seminars, counselling and student acquisition
2020–2021: Faculty at another national education company- Taught verbal ability, logical reasoning and interview preparation
- Managed and mentored approximately 300–350 students at a time
- During COVID, personally provided free preparation resources and mentoring to more than 50 students despite taking a substantial salary reduction
- Later worked on creating CBSE Social Science content for Classes 8 and 9
During this period, I also cleared the written stage of the Combined Defence Services Examination and attended the SSB interview, where I was conferenced out.2021–2022: GMAT Quantitative Faculty- Relocated to a larger city and joined an international test-preparation company
- Taught GMAT Quantitative Reasoning online and at the physical centre
- Student outcomes included a 770 score with Q51 on the old GMAT and another score above 680
2022–2023: Verbal Faculty in my home city- Returned home to remain closer to my parents
- Taught CAT, GMAT and other management entrance examinations
- Progressed from earning INR 500 per lecture in 2018 to approximately INR 70,000 per month
- Students I taught or mentored achieved more than 50 IIM conversions, including admits to IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore, along with conversions at other leading Indian business schools
EntrepreneurshipIn August 2023, I started building my own test-preparation and education-consulting venture.I began with:- No external funding
- Almost no savings
- A rented classroom
- A very small team
- Limited formal knowledge of running a business
The proprietorship was formally registered in July 2024.From July 2024 to date, the venture has generated approximately:- INR 1.1 crore in documented gross revenue
- INR 50 lakh in cumulative net profit
Revenue has come from a mix of:- Test-preparation programmes
- Student mentoring
- Education consulting
- Institutional partnerships
- School and college tie-ups
- Student recruitment and affiliation-related assignments
The business has remained extremely lean:- Maximum team size: approximately four
- Current team size: one
- I directly managed faculty and support staff
- My approximate role split has been:
- Teaching: 50%
- Sales and business development: 40%
- Operations: 10%
Since 2018, I estimate that I have:- Taught approximately 5,000 students
- Personally mentored approximately 2,000 students
The venture’s average fee is approximately INR 30,000, compared with INR 80,000–90,000 charged by several larger competitors.I have also taught around 15–20 financially constrained students either free of cost or at reduced fees.My current personal annual income from the venture is approximately INR 10 lakh. Revenue has recently started declining, and I am finding it difficult to compete with larger education companies while continuing to manage teaching, sales and operations personally.Leadership and Extracurricular ActivitiesIn school:- House Captain and Discipline Prefect
- My house won House of the Year, Best House for Academic Performance and Best March Past
- Third place in an under-16 basketball competition
- Participated in debates, Olympiads, shloka competitions, cricket, basketball, swimming and taekwondo
My extracurricular involvement after school has mostly been connected to teaching, student mentoring and building my venture.MBA MotivationFor most of my career, I believed teaching would remain my complete professional identity. After nearly nine years in the education industry, I now feel that teaching should remain part of my life, but should not limit my professional growth.I have developed strong experience in classroom delivery, mentoring, sales and running a small founder-led business. However, I lack formal training in:- Strategy
- Finance
- Marketing
- Organisational leadership
- Scalable operations
- Technology-led education businesses
I now want to move beyond being primarily a faculty member and founder-operator.Career GoalsMy goals are still somewhat unclear, and I would appreciate suggestions on how to position them credibly. My current options are:- Management consulting, ideally in education, technology or consumer-focused practices
- Strategy, growth or business-development roles at a larger EdTech or education company
- Education consulting or higher-education strategy
Long term, I may return to entrepreneurship and build a larger, more scalable and affordable education platform.Target Schools and GeographyI am completely open geographically, including:- Europe
- United States
- Asia
- India
I am primarily looking for a globally recognised Top-40 programme with strong post-MBA placement outcomes. However, I would require a substantial scholarship, ideally full or near-full funding, to make the MBA financially practical.Although the business has generated meaningful revenue, the amount is not equivalent to my current liquid savings. Funds have been used for business expenses, family responsibilities and housing, and I have only recently started saving specifically for an MBA.Questions- Which global Top-40 programmes should I realistically target with this profile?
- What are my chances of receiving a full or near-full scholarship with a 695 GMAT Focus score?
- Should I retake the GMAT? Would a 715+ or 725+ score materially change my scholarship prospects?
- How badly will my 6.547/10 undergraduate CGPA affect me despite my GMAT, Class 12 academics, professional qualifications and work experience?
- Should I position my post-MBA goal as management consulting, EdTech strategy or education consulting?
- Is management consulting realistic given that almost my entire experience is in teaching and entrepreneurship rather than a conventional corporate role?
- Should I prioritise one-year European programmes or two-year US programmes for a career switch?
- Which schools are known to value entrepreneurship and offer significant merit scholarships?
- Would it be better to target slightly lower-ranked programmes offering substantial scholarships rather than higher-ranked programmes requiring significant debt?
Thank you for reviewing my profile. I would appreciate direct feedback on realistic, reach and scholarship-friendly schools, along with suggestions on how I should strengthen my candidacy before applying.
