Question for everyone - what "kind" of work experience are adcom's generally looking for? Are there any specific industries or job roles that the Top schools prefer or weigh more heavily over others?
For example - I know i-banking, private equity, mgmt consulting, etc. are pretty highly-valued industries. Would someone who worked as a consultant at a management consulting firm (strategy, operations, etc) for a year or two have an edge over someone who worked as a financial analyst at another company (i.e. in the accounting/finance department)?
I know a big part is "career growth" - i.e. increased job responsibilities, promotions, impact on organization, etc. - but are certain industries valued more highly than others by adcom's of Top MBA schools?
I'm just in the process of job searching for my next job, with a bunch of interviews and such on the table and (hopefully) a couple job offers coming up, I'm just trying to figure out which job/industry will put me in the best situation when it comes to MBA apps a year from now.
Thanks all!
