Hi All,
I am applying for LBS/ Said/ Judge in R1. I don't have any international experience. I am concerned about how much international experience matters in the application. There is a dedicated question about international experience in LBS applications. How can I tackle this or what should I write in that question?
Please find my profile below for more details.
Age: 31 (Does this impact my application)
Nationality: Indian
College: IIT Dhanbad
Degree: B.Tech
Work experience: 8+ years - Various Startups (Early stage to mid-size). I worked in product, operations, sales, BD, and marketing. Have started up a firm, couldn't make it work and got the team acqui-hired (working here currently). Primary Job Role - Product Management
GMAT: 645 ( I will attempt again in a month, aiming to get 685+)
Post MBA - Will continue to work in Product Management (Late-Stage startups or big firms)
Please share your thoughts.
Hey,
abhis.1101Your academic credentials are quite commendable, with a B.Tech. degree from the prestigious IIT Dhanbad that's well-respected and validates your achievements immensely. In addition to that, your age adds some degree of maturity and perspective to the application process, complemented by more than eight years' worth of diverse experience in various startups. Furthermore, you have also exhibited enterprise skills by establishing a personal company and then getting into acqui-hire realization; this indicates creativity, dedication, and versatility under extremely complex circumstances.
Currently, you are focused on product management, which is in line with your intentions post-MBA to stay in this sector. Your GMAT Focus Edition score of 645 is competitive, but your idea to retake the GMAT is commendable and will further strengthen your application.
If you're worried about your lack of international experience, there are ways to deal with it in your application. If you have worked in diverse teams, engaged in international projects, dealt with various cultures through volunteering, or undertaken personal growth travel, please mention that. These experiences are as much appreciated by adcoms as direct international exposure. This may be reflected in your global mindset by explaining how you've interacted with internationally reputable publications, thought leaders, and virtual communities. Additionally, inform how your past has influenced your view of the world and why you are committed to learning from other people. Lastly, detail some specific courses you look forward to taking during your MBA, mention clubs or treks; and mention your post-MBA goal of working overseas and bringing unique insights into the global discussions.
