When Joe walks to school, Anna walks with him. But whenever Anna walks to school, Jorge doesn’t walk to school. Also, when Anna walks she makes sure her little brother Jake walks to school with her. Lastly, when it rains, Joe usually gets a ride from his mom. Today, it happened to rain and Anna did not walk to school.
The claims above, if true, most strongly support which of the following conclusions?
(A) Jake did not walk to school
(B) Joe got a ride from his mom
(C) Jorge biked to school
(D) Joe did not walk to school
(E) Jake did walk to school
In inference question the best way is to keep a track of what we know and what we don't and make strict category and DON'T ASSUME anything .
In the above case if one has all time they can draw a quick chart . In case one is running out of time then simply read and understand only about what is given about whom .
We are told (Keep your focus on words eg USUALLY ).
1)Joe + Anna walk to school (There is mandatory condition FOR WALK between these 2= so we will focus on all talks abt WALK)
2)If A walks = G dosen't WALK (which could mean he drives , he gets a ride etc we can't assume and hence we are not worried abt what is not mentioned 3)If A walks she makes sure Jake walks WITH her (focus on mandatory condition only for WALK , we don't know abt ride or other ways but If A will WALK Jake will walk with her . Don't try to assume what would happen when they don't walk)
4)Rain (condition) , USUALLY= (means not necessarily )Joe gets ride (We knew what would happen the day A walks but when Joe gets ride we can't say for sure about others but we are def sure that Joe + A did not walk that day when it rained as next info says A did not WALK to school )
Now what do we know about other people when A did not walk to school ? The answer is nothing Don't trick your brain just focus on facts . We were told abt everything when A walks to school but when she doesn't we can't assume .
(A) Jake did not walk to school (We don't know if he got ride or he chose not to walk or he walked , We were just told that If A walks she makes sure Jake walks with her . We were not told what would happen the day A doesn't walk )
(B) Joe got a ride from his mom (USUALLY suggests that Joe may or may not have got ride )
(C) Jorge biked to school (Yeah may be he did or may be he walked we can't assume . CHECK ALL POSSIBILITIES )
(D) Joe did not walk to school (SINCE beginning we are being told JOE + ANNA come in bundle the WORD WITH means no one would WALK without each other (this also means that they might take ride or blah blah but they would NEVER WALK WITHOUT EACH OTHER ) So when ANNA DID NOT WALK = JOE DID NOT WALK , ANNA WALK = JOE WALK . Both might take other routes or means of reaching school BUT IF ONE WALKS OTHER TOO WOULD WALK & vice versa .CORRECT ANS .
(E) Jake did walk to school (Jake might have got ride from mom may be not so reject)
TAKE AWAY = IF we keep track of what we don't know/ what we know = it becomes easy to infer . While making opp of words(do go = opp is doesn't go, AT LEAST SOME = OPP NONE ) we need to be careful while noting opposites . (TIP= practice few inference questions and keep a track of what we can assume and what we can't .)
