Hey guys,

I have got admits from:
W&M with a gracious scholarship (FEES around 55,000 now)
UC Davis with a gracious scholarship (FEES around 60,000 now)
UT Dallas (FEES around 66,000)

I am aiming for a career in the Finance sector.

I was wondering if, while choosing universities, the national rank of the university should matter? Both W&M and UC Davis have a national rank of 40 and are public ivy leagues, whereas UT Dallas has the rank of 147.

On the other hand, UT Dallas ranks higher than the other two in MBA rankings (U.S News and Ft times).

I am having a very hard time deciding on what should I go for. If anyone could help that would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Apart from ranking, there are other very important things that international students must keep in mind.

1) Stem degree: If any of these three schools are offering STEM MBA, accept that school. I have so many people in my circle who are now going for CPT in order to stay in USA and save their jobs. What happen when the school isn't offering STEM MBA. International student will get one year OPT and student must get job within 6 months post-graduation. Companies file for H1B visa by 20th March almost every year and in order to avail that option one must get full time offer by November or December. I know one of my contact successfully passing all rounds of interview at Amazon but unfortunately, he didn't get the final offer as his opt was ending June 2020. His Opt ending on 15th of this month and he is in great trouble.

2) Market Saturation: Let say you belong to India, then getting job will be hard for you as market is saturated with Indian engineers. This is true with few other nationalities and IT professionals. Check with every school that how many students from your country studied in the past and how many of them get full time offer. Best option: Use linkedin to get connected with them.

3) ROI: return on investment is very important. William and Mary is good option for those who want to keep his or her living expenses low. Last year when i got admission from different schools, i was surprised to see that living expenses was quite cheaper for those studying at W&M. That is not the only thing. Let see you wana join Consultancy once done with MBA. Pick that school where maximum Consultancy firms visit for career fair.

i know few ppl who graduated from all these three schools and everyone facing issues. Ranking shouldn't be the only criteria to select school. At the end of the day it is all about where you landed. I know someone who studied from Kogod and got job in Amazon and i know someone who graduated from Broad and is now leaving USA. Look for school that best suited with your program. Fisher is great for those who wana do specialization in Supply chain and Kogod for those who wana do something in Accounts and Taxation. Make your priorities and select school according to it. Look for people who graduated from these schools at Linkedin, where they landed after graduation and connect with them.

Hope this will help you!

Thank you so much for the help. I don't have a major issue with the F1 Visa situation to be honest. I already have a STEM masters. I feel the location of UT Dallas will give me a great exposure to finance jobs. W&M on the other hand lacks that advantage. But the program at W&M is so exceptionally great. I'm in such a spot.

I thought u are an international student. If you don't have F1 visa issue than i would say go UT Dallas. Its Accounting program is really good. When i get admission from W&M i contacted international students who graduated from this school. They said its faculty is good but it will be hard for you when it comes for Job hunting. I will not select UC davis but will make a list of my priorities. What i am looking in an MBA program? For you, its important that school should have good Finance program. Its location should give easy access for job hunting and the program overall should give you a good experience.
