I don't think OA marked is correct here. Can someone please help me get the correct answer? I think C should be correct, but B could also be correct. Please help.

Yes B and C are better than D. Using a conjunction "and" does not depict the relation between "broke" and " inspire". A present participle modifier shows this relation correctly (an effect of breaking was inspiring.)

Between B and C, B may be considered better because the inspiration is to attempt - not a solid reason to eliminate C though.

OA has been changed.

Shouldn't we say C is more concise and better than B? Don't you think 'to overcome' is better than 'an attempt to overcome'?

Correct

eliminated as 'inspire to attempt' is missing

IMO it is C.

Inspiring actually modifying the action in the preceding clause. Again , 'to overcome' is a better expression than 'attempt to overcome'

I am confused between B and C myself .
C makes a better sense ! I don’t understand why is B a better choice

A. inspiring thousands of others to attempt overcoming -- to attempt overcoming is unidiomatic

B. inspiring thousands of others to attempt to overcome -- inspiring is correctly used here as his breaking of barrier led to this effect and attempt to overcome is idiomatic

C. inspiring thousands of others to overcome --changes the meaning, his breaking of barrier didn't inspire to overcome but to attempt to overcome

D. and inspired thousands of others to attempt to overcome -- we don't need a conjunction here, its a cause-effect relationship
E. and inspired thousands of others to attempt overcoming -- same as option D

Please correct me if my understanding is wrong.
