What is considered more important a brand name that you work for or the kind of work you do?

Business Schools look at the work experience 'component' of you application for a number of reasons. The emphasis of certain MBA programs tends to match better for applicants with certain experience better than others. Schools sometimes look for applicants with 'interesting' (re: non-traditional) backgrounds. Schools also look for evidence of leadership experience.
Since you haven't offered much in the way of specifics, it sounds like this is more of an application question/issue, so you might want to post this in the Admissions Consultants Forum (on this site). You can find it here:

Impossible to quantify and compare - Adcom will wish to get candidates performing meaningful roles in companies they can identify. Such companies usually have a strong set of processes and hence the candidate's inclusion promises certain desirable qualities in his/her profile.
Though if I were to choose between two job profiles - one meaningful role in a small company and another leg work in an easily recognizable one, I would certainly choose the meaningful role because it will help me learn much more on the job which will automatically reflect on my profile. I can always explain what my company does.
