Excerpts from the Q&A session with NUS's admission officer - Jennifer Luo.

The NUS MBA is known for its extremely small class size and low acceptance rates. Could you give us a better idea of what are the top 3 things that you look for in prospective students? Thank you!

NUS_Jennifer: NUS MBA every year admits around 100 students for the full-time cohort. I think it's not a small class. But we are concerned about the student quality and mix. We expect every student can bring their own value to the class.

For rejected applicants, will adcom provide any feedback so that they can improve on those areas for the next application?

NUS_Jennifer: Sorry but we don't provide feedback for the interview.

Can you tell our participants, if rejected, what one should do to improve his/her candidacy while reapplying?

NUS_Jennifer: We will expect the re-applicants can tell us their personal and professional progress through the year.

How is the teaching method in NUS? Is it case studies which dominate the lectures throughout the 17 month tenure? Or is it a mix of Case Studies and concepts? I wanted to understand how a typical lecture progresses.

NUS_Jennifer: At NUS, we focus a lot on experiential learning. Some courses like accounting of course will be more concepts based and have exams for the evaluation. But most of the courses are case-study based.

Is there any opportunity of internship? Does NUS provide accommodation for international student?

NUS_Jennifer: our students are welcome to do the internship during 17-month MBA study since it will be one of the better way for non-local students to get hands-on experience in the local market as well as build your network. For housing accommodation: We do have on-campus accommodation for students. You can apply for it; alternatively you can also rent off-campus apartment.

What percent of students are given on campus accommodation?

NUS_Jennifer: Generally our students who apply for the accommodation get it. It's a not a big concern.

I am not working for past 6 months and prepared for GMAT & other competitive exams. How much a lack of job affects admission chances?

NUS_Jennifer: We only have the requirement that candidate must have at least 2 years of full-time work experience after the undergraduate study. For the gap, as long as you can provide an acceptable justification, it should be fine.

Is the management practicum held in the NUS campus or the students are based out of the company offices and get to collaborate with the leadership teams of the companies?

I would like to tell more about the Management Practicum since it's really a unique module. Every year we have more than 40 companies providing us more than 70 projects for our students to work on. You may find out more information from our website: http://mba.nus.edu/academic-experience/ ... -practicum or search the related video from youtube.

Will the results after interview be released once the first deadline i.e. 31 January is closed?

NUS_Jennifer: 31st January is the deadline for submission. It takes around 6-8 weeks for the review after we receive a completed application.

Do Indian students need to give TOEFL for applying to NUS and NTU?
OR
Do they need a letter from their university stating that the medium of education was English?

P.S-Medium of education at my Undergrad school(BITS Pilani) was English.

NUS website clearly says that only those applicants whose medium of instructions for the undergraduate studies was not English are required to submit TOEFL or IELTS.

Don't know about info sessions in India but last year we invited NUS adcoms in our chat room to chat with applicants (Chat transcript is posted here) and we are going to invite them, as well as few current students, this year as well. Keep eye on this discussion thread for chat notifications.

Good luck!

I've just updated the deadlines in first post. Does anyone know where the essay topics for 2016/17 posted on NUS's website?

NUS Singapore - Admission Trends!

Hi Everyone, I am posting here an analysis of admission trends and acceptance chances at NUS based on our accumulated forum data of NUS applicants. We have analysed our forum data of NUS applicants from 2012 to 2016 to determine acceptance chances by GMAT score, GPA, age, and industry.

Due to limitation of data sample we have restricted our analysis to GMAT, GPA, Age, and Industry; We did not take applicants' countries and admission rounds in to consideration.

Since the data used for this analysis is self-reported, it's advised to use findings of this analysis with discretion. They are meant to give only a general idea of admission scenario at NUS. Don't presume that these findings will hold true all the time.

We would welcome any comments, opinions, suggestions or anything else that you might have to say about the findings of this analysis.

YOY Acceptance Rate and Avg GMAT of Applicants

Sample Size: 666 Applicants
Image

Acceptance Rate by GMAT Score

  • NUS is one of the most prestigious and competitive schools in South east Asia and the intensity of competition can be seen in the following chart. Even after attaining 710 on GMAT you have 8% chance of acceptance.
  • We can see some rapid increase from 720 onwards, but even at highest point acceptance chance remains at 21%.

Sample Size: 274 Applicants
Image

Acceptance Rates of Applicants in Different Age Groups

Sample Size: 157 Applicants
Image

Acceptance rates of applicants from various industries

  • The first chart - line chart - shows acceptance rates of applicants from various industries and the pie chart next to it shows industry-wise allocation of applicants.

Sample Size: 282 Applicants

GPA: Accepted Vs Overall Applicant Pool

Sample Size: 666 Applicants

As I said earlier, we welcome your views, counter-views, suggestions, etc on the analysis. Thank you!

I also received the invite today. No idea as to what to expect.
They didn't give enough time to prepare. My interview is tomorrow!

Congrats on the interview guys.

For reference, this is my interview debrief from last year : calling-all-nus-singapore-applicants-2016-intake-class-of-200736-240.html#p1667304

NUS sends invites till late in the cycle so don't be disheartened if you haven't received one yet.

All the best!
