Hi! Can any one explain what the issue is with B?

Working with musician Stevie Wonder as a musical adviser, Ray Kurzweil developed what is now the preferred medium for creating nearly all music for today’s commercial albums, films, and television: a computer-based instrument capable of reproducing musical sounds of a quality once thought to be possible only on grand pianos and other acoustic instruments.

a) reproducing musical sounds of a quality once thought to be - 'sounds of a quality'- is 'of'correct here with quality?
b) reproducing musical sounds with a quality as were once thought to be - Felt this was parallel and correct: 'with a quality;
and 'were' indicating plurality

Quote:
a) reproducing musical sounds of a quality once thought to be

There is nothing wrong with the phrase. KEEP!

Quote:
b) reproducing musical sounds with a quality as were once thought to be

'as were' is unnecessary.
'Quality once thought to be' conveys the meaning properly.
As A has no issues, B is out!

Quote:
d) reproduction of musical sounds whose quality is the same as what were once thought to be
e) reproduction of musical sounds at a quality once thought of as

'Capable of reproduction of musical sounds' -> Extremely wordy.
Again, compared to A, both of these can safely be eliminated.

Quote:
c) reproducing in musical sounds a quality that was once thought to be

Capable of reproducing in musical sounds? Capable of reproducing musical sounds is much more succinct and without errors.
