Hi ,

is worth doing MBA at 39 yrs of age with 17 yrs of decent work experience in IT field with a multinational Gaint and a stable career (manager level, 7 figure salary Per Annum) but not great (not a director , VP) i would say ? i m based out of india....

i know this is something i myself have to figure out and yes i will but what i want is opinion from people here based on whatever you have seen so far?

yes i know i have given a generic information about myself about but lets consider that and pour in your opinions

feel free to pour in your opinion and if you think you need more info before commenting then pls feel free to DM me. it wil be great help you taking interest in this.

Thanks

Hi Ajaynit,

7 figures USD? If so I do not think you can aim for much more unless you go for top exec positions or build your own business.
I do not think INSEAD will be keen on your profile given your extensive WE & your age, probably they will invite you for the Executive MBA that makes more sense for your career.

Why you think an MBA would be good for you? I believe you need to ask yourself what is that you want to do in the next 10-20 years; and if really an MBA now will make a huge difference or not.
Maybe you can do something else to reach those goals.

Regards,
Pablo

Given the stats shared by you , i would say look at that the intangible benefits over cost recovery, from your post it seems that MBA according to you is kinda like a tick mark on a check list .. well you need to self evaluate the need and want before deciding to pursue MBA or not nobody can give you a reason of why noe and why you shouldn't except your self..

Well age is no bar to pursue MBA , for instance ISB PGP has class age size from 24 to 40 years..
What's important is that you should have solid reason to convince adcom of why MBA and why now...
Alongside focus on GMAT prep than worrying about chances of getting into a B school because of age , these days there are many 1 year program viz IIM and school in US are also offering 1 year program..
Wish you the best.

Thanks Archit for your valuable crisp inputs...well i guess the keywords (Age, exp) used in my question made it look like a entirely different question.. I am not worried about chances of getting into B school because of Age...question is do i need it at this juncture? if i dont do it am i missing on something? cant i live without it and still reach on top or at least just below top? i know all these are subjective/relative words (top/below top etc) .

forget convincing adcom, i am in phase where i am trying to convince myself..

i have done reasonable amount of research from IIM/ISB to kellog/Insead for their 1 yr program....insead/kellog-- opportunity cost is high (1.5-2 Crs, INR, loan repayment wil take 3-4 yrs best possible case that too when i get the job then n there)-- IIMs/ISB (fees is low but less global visibility and exposure)

can you/someone provide some examples/data or something like that, to strengthen the fact that yes its going to be great doing an MBA from top school (be it india or abroad) at this juncture of my career.

Many thanks

Jumping in a little late to the game, but at a high level, your best bet is EMBA or even specific management programs / intensive courses (some are a few weeks long) that are focused on areas where you want to specialize or get support.

Particularly for the latter, many people who go through them really enjoy the lessons learned, networks built, and overall experience even in a short period of time! Depending on whether your employer would sponsor it (assuming that's also part of your plan), the ROI on these alterantives could be very promising.

hmm I guess 7 figure rupees is possible to overgrow with an MBA, it depends on how many tenths of lakhs it is currently (close or above a crore I believe would be harder to overachieve).

hi,
the way I see it, with your level of experience perhaps an executive program might be a better option? You can apply to MBA courses as well, as long as you can justify the questions of why MBA and why now, but if admitted you are unlikely to find peers with similar experience as yours in your class. In an executive program, you may be better placed to gain from the experience of your peers and leverage the network of senior executives better. A lot of executive programs are especially designed for senior executives
