X equals to Y% of what number?

(1) X = 3Y.
(2) 6Y+2X = 56X/14.

Hi,
X equals to Y% of what number MEANS X = Y/100 of N....
so \(N = \frac{100X}{Y}\)..
so we are looking for ratio of x and y..

lets see the statements-

(1)\(X = 3Y.\)
ratio of x and y can be clearly found
Suff

(2) \(6Y+2X = \frac{56X}{14}\).
All terms are linear and in terms of x and y, so ratio between x and y can be found
Suff

X equals to Y% of what number?

(1) X = 3Y.
(2) 6Y+2X = 56X/14.

Statement 1) X=3Y
Let X=1 then Y becomes 3%, now when need to find 1 is 3% of what no. .. Sufficient.

Statement 2) 6Y + 2X = 56X/14 which reduces to X=3Y .. Sufficient.

Ans D is correct.

Good luck
