Hi all,
I'm facing a bit of a dilemma in which school to choose. I've been accepted into both schools, no scholarships.
I'm a 30 yr old European with work experience in corporate finance/management consulting for a Big 4 in the UK and AsiaPac.
Goal after MBA is to move into tech (strategy/corp development) or MBB consulting. I'd like to work in the US for a few years as well, but would like an international career in the long term.
So, this is how I see the pros and cons for each school.
Yale SOM:
Pros:
- strong network in the US (but unsure how good network is in Silicon Valley or how strong MBB placement is)
- alumni are generally very supportive
- 2 years would give me more time for career switch in tech
- Yale University brand is great
Cons:
- not a lot of alumni outside US
- Yale SOM brand not as good as the host university
- Even with a degree from the US, work restrictions might mean I wouldn't be able to get a job in the US
INSEAD:
Pros:
- a large alumni network worldwide
- potential access to Wharton/Kellogg recruitment and network through exchange
- cheaper programme and lower opportunity costs
Cons:
- brand not as strong in the US and might be tricky to get a job in the US immediately after MBA without a US MBA
- very intensive, so won't give me a lot of time to figure out what I want to do
- there are a lot of students every year in multiple campuses around the world, so I'm not sure how much time career services can dedicate to each student
I would be really thankful for any advice people may have on what would be the better option given my career goals.
Thanks,
S
