Hi all,
My first post here, have been lurking around for a while but now that I've finally decided to take the leap for my GMAT I wanted to get more involved with this forum. First, a little bit about me:
- Born in the Netherlands, moved to New York City 3 years ago
- 3-5 years work experience in marketing/sales
- 25 Years Old
- Goal to get in to a top 10 US Business School or Top 5 European Business School
As indicated above, my goal is to bring my final GMAT score above 700. I took a GMATPrep exam to see where I stand, and I was surprised by how well I did on Verbal versus Math (see below) but it is clear I need to study with an emphasis on math - I'm great at making calculationsg in my head, but as a result of this I think I've neglected to really understand the foundations of math. Essentially I aim to have my actual GMAT Exam in 12 weeks (late May). I have a rough outline of my study plan below, I would really appreciate your feedback on whether or not you feel this is a good strategy and based on the above if you think a goal of 700+ is realistic. Wanted to point out that I read general business/science books and the WSJ a lot already, so that will be sprinkled throughout my study.
When I took a GMATPrep exam last week my score was as follows:
- Quant: 39 (48th Percentile)
- Verbal: 38(84th Percentile)
- Score: 640 (73rd Percentile)
For the actual GMAT, these are the study materials I plan to use:
- Magoosh membership
- MGMAT Strategy books (6th edition books 0-9)
- MGMAT Foundations of Math
- OG Guides (Including Math & Verbal Review)
- Error Log
- Flashcards
And here's my rough study plan:
Weeks 1-5: Math Focus- MGMAT Foundations of Math, Strategy Books 0-5
- All OG DS & PS questions (leaving OG Math Review for Weeks 10-12)
- All Magoosh videos relating to Math
- Track all questions and answers in error log
- Create & review flashcards on a daily basis
- AWA Practice
- Take a CAT practice exam in week 5 to identify remaining weaknesses
Weeks 6-10: Verbal Focus- MGMAT Strategy Books 6-9
- All OG RC, CR and SC questions (leaving OG Verbal Review for Weeks 10-12)
- All related Magoosh Videos
- Track all questions and answers in error log
- IR practice
- Take a CAT practice exam in week 10 to identify remaining weaknesses
Weeks 10-12: Review & TEST!- OG Math & Verbal Review Questions
- Closely review error log and retry questions - identifying key areas of improvement needed
- More practice exams to become comfortable with timing strategy
- Somewhere in week 12 or 13 (May 16-May 29) - take my GMAT
As I'm sure goes for many, if not all, of us, I've dreamt a long time of making it to the big leagues so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
D
