The Red Pen MBA Admissions Experience

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

Strengths:

1. Deep, thoughtful storytelling and personal brand building (especially Pranjal’s push for reflection and authenticity)
2. Strong structure and organization via Metis, with high accessibility/responsiveness from the team
3. High-impact mock interview process (recorded sessions + detailed feedback significantly improved delivery and confidence)

Would make the product better:

1. Interview prep could be more proactive and structured; required frequent check-ins from my end to get sufficient guidance
2. Timeline management during peak periods can feel tight alongside a full-time job, but guess that's part of the process...

I worked with The Red Pen for my MBA applications starting in March 2025, and my experience overall was very positive and impactful. Going into the process, I was concerned that I might be starting a bit late - especially since I was targeting Round 1 deadlines beginning in August - and was also unsure about how to position my story, given that I was on the lower side of the typical work experience range for MBA applicants.

I worked closely with Pranjal as my lead consultant, with Anju supporting on my resume, LORs, and mock interviews, and Manisha and Prerna as consistent points of contact throughout. What really stood out was the level of depth and thoughtfulness that went into shaping my narrative. Pranjal, in particular, pushed me to reflect more deeply and articulate my experiences in a way that felt both authentic and differentiated. That process of building a clear personal brand ended up being one of the most valuable parts of the engagement.

The mock interview process was another standout. Having sessions recorded and reviewed in detail made a significant difference in how I refined my delivery and built confidence. I would strongly recommend incoming candidates opt for this service - it’s a genuine game changer.

Of course, like any MBA application journey, there were moments when timelines felt tight - especially while balancing a full-time job and working toward R1 deadlines. However, having a structured process and their in-house platform like Metis helped keep everything organized and reduced a lot of the usual chaos that comes with multiple applications. The team was also very accessible and responsive, which made a big difference during high-pressure periods.

I applied to four schools through The Red Pen and was admitted to two, with one additional waitlist. The guidance I received while making the final decision between my offers was also thoughtful and helpful.

Overall, The Red Pen’s greatest strength lies in their ability to help candidates build a strong, introspective, and authentic story. If there’s one area that can feel challenging, it’s managing timelines during peak periods - but that’s also a function of how intensive and detail-oriented the process is.

I would definitely recommend them to applicants who are looking for structured guidance, strong storytelling support, and a team that is invested in helping you get to a B-school where you genuinely fit in.
