Recall that 135% expressed as a decimal number is 1.35.

1.35x = 405

x = 405/1.35

x = 40500/135

x = 300

E. 135

Let number be x.
135% of x = 405
$$\frac{135}{100}$$ * x = 405
x = $$\frac{405 * 100}{135}$$ = 300

Let me back solve the problem for the following question.

Let us start from option C because once we check the answer we would be knowing whether to go upwards or downwards options.

The no: mentioned in the option C is 270.

We know that 100% of 270 is 270. Therefore 10% would be 27 and hence 5% would be 13.5.

Therefore 135% would be 270+3*27+13.5<405. Hence the value should be greater than 270.

Eliminate option C,D & E.

Lets check option B in which the value mentioned is 300.

100% of 300 is 300. Therefore 10% would be 30 and 5% would be 15.

Therefore 135% would be 300+3*30+15 = 405.

Hence option B is the right option.
