Got the LGO ding letter today (no interview). Disappointed but not surprised. Still keeping my fingers crossed for the Sloan MBA invite...

I think..its over for those who did not get an interview invite. I had sent an email to them asking about the interviews and got a reply saying - "all admitted candidates are interviewed". So that means, those who did not get an interview call, the ding letter is on its way by postal mail.

My question now is - how much of a chance does one have to get into Sloan after applying to LGO?

I dont think that 3 years of experience is bad at all, if anything, that is what is recommended. In the LGO website it states that you need a minimum of 2 years and preferably not more than 5. I think 3 or 4 years is right on the ball park in my opinion.

The actual quote is:
Do I need work experience to apply to the program?

LGO welcomes all applications. The most competitive applicants meet LGO's basic degree and post-graduation work requirements (two years of full-time work experience; three to five years are preferred).

I think Jane Deutsh simply rolled the dice when she saw your application. Who knows what they are looking for. I am sure that there were plenty of excellent candidates interviewed or rejected without even interviewing. For real, no one truly knows what every admissions commitee on every school looks for in order to accept someone. It may simply be luck, timing of your application, etc. This is all so random, I read about guys with 3.6 GPA and 760 gmats and they get a ding, I read about a guy who has a 2.5 gpa and a 550 gmat and is admitted. I read about people being accepted into Harvard but being rejected into state universities. All this process is about luck, timing and having exactly what they are looking for at the moment of your application evaluation. It may be that at some point they got tired of too many people from Boeing or Intel and the guy simply thought "you know what, the next guy I get from Boeing or Intel is going to be a ding" or it may occur that the guy reads your app and thinks "hmmm this year and last year no one from Honeywell was accepted" and so he throws the next app with a Honeywell history into the lucky thread regardless of his scores or grades.

Not to go on a rant here, but I don't like the word "ding" in this context. Who came up with that anyway? And why does it mean rejection? To me a "ding" is a sound made when you reach your destination in an elevator.

Okay I got my rejection letter in the mail, and it said you will be considered for Sloan MBA. Did everyone get this? Or is it possible to get rejected even more?

You guys are awesome btw, lots of congrats to those who made it and lots of hugs and love to those who are in my boat.

I've been wondering the same thing. Do any of the rejection letters for LGO just outright reject you, or do they all have a line about being considered for Sloan MBA?

I havent gotten mine either. I currently live in the US. It really angers me. I wonder if there still is a tiny photon of hope... Last year there were interviews after decision.

Has anyone not received his letter yet??? I haven't received my letter and I am kind of worried about it.

¿what makes that letter so special in order to be send by post mail and not by e-mail?

Hi everybody,
I still haven't gotten my decision letter so I sent an email to the admissions today. They replied very fast with the decision. I got waitlisted... Does someone here know what are the chances? What was the statistics last years? Can I submit additional materials to LGO? If I accept the place in LGO's waitlist, does it exclude me from being considered for Sloan R2 or I shall remain under consideration for both programs? LGO is my #1 choice, yet I don't want to be left with nothing if the chances of going into LGO are very slim...
Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!
Here is the letter from Don Rosenfield:
Dear Mr. XXX,
Thank you for your interest in joining the MIT Leaders for Global Operations (LGO) program. Based on our
careful consideration of each application, we believe that you would be a strong member for the Class of 2013.
Although we are unable to offer you a position in the class at this time, we have selected you for our waitlist.
Your application continues to be under consideration for the MIT Sloan MBA program. Your MIT Sloan MBA
decision will be available on April 4, 2011.
We encourage you to e-mail Jane Deutsch (deutschj@mit.edu), Director of Admissions and Career Development,
if you would like to indicate continued interest in LGO. If space becomes available, we will admit additional
applicants to LGO by the end of April. We look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Donald B. Rosenfield
