Anyone know of any Mac-friendly tests out there? Most appear to be designed for Windows-based computers. I got the Kaplan (I think?) book out of the library, the one with the disc, but can't use it because it is Windows only. I think the one this site, GMATClub, offers is, also, a Windows-only test. Any help? Something that doesn't require a lot of tech-stuff prep work (like making your computer Windows-friendly by installing some kind of program). Thanks.
Anyone? No?

mac: I would download the GMATPrep software off mba.com and also use the 6 Manhattan GMAT CATs that come with any book (there are instructions for how to access them in each book).

Those 8 should be an excellent starting point and are all that many people use.

I am very surprised that you didn't take even one CAT prior to your test. You must use some practice tests.
How many should I use? Which ones? I'll do MGMAT. Is that enough or should I do more?

pike
Some people believe you can go overboard on CATs. This is probably true, but to not even do a single practice test is cavalier to say the least.
So, how many should be enough?

pike
You have access to 6 MGMAT CATs through the books you purchased. These are regarded as being quite accurate.
I'll do those.

pike
You also have access to two free GMAT PREP tests through mba.com. These use the same scoring algorithm as the real thing and genuine GMAT questions. Typically people "save" this. I think since you just sat a real GMAT test, there will be no need for you to use this straight away, as you already know your baseline score.
Ok. I won't use this. Besides, this test is not mac-friendly, and I have a mac. These tests are designed for Windows.

pike
I suggest you use the MGMAT CATs, then the GMAT PREP CATs. This will give you a very accurate benchmark your your improvement, and what level you are at for when you sit the test next.
Oh! Ok. Ignore my previous comment. But the GMAT test is windows only? I'll probably skip it.

pike
You mentioned you did not finish the test. The penalty for not finishing sections of the GMAT is massive...
No kidding...

pike
I think after you sit all the MGMAT CATs, your timing will be much improved...
Let's hope so...

pike
You need to read up on guessing strategies, and knowing when to fold in a question...
Will do.

pike
You mentioned you used the MGMAT books. Did you also combine this with the Official Guide?
I did.

I will use the MGMAT tests, but the ones from mba.com are for widows only. I'm a mac user. Too bad. I'll do without those. Besides, I already took the real thing, so I know what I got. Do you think the 6 MGMAT tests will be enough? Thanks.

MGMAT is about the best you can get without using GMATPrep, but GMATPrep is far and away the best practice test (MGMAT Quant tends to be a bit too difficult for starters).

If you're serious about your GMAT studying I would recommend you either use a PC at a library, or borrow a friend's PC to take the GMATPrep tests. There really is no substitute for taking the GMATPrep tests given that you might not get the score you predict next time around and will have to take the test again. GMATPrep reduces that chance considerably and the cost of a PC laptop nowadays is basically on par with one administration of the GMAT.

What's your goal score?

Dear mac, I am a linux user and never had problems running gmatprep on my linux mint or ubuntu via wine. I believe mac has something similar to wine called crossover. You can try installing gmatprep with crossover. Initially I was also sceptical about installing gmatprep on ubuntu and mint but had no problem installing and running the test. GMATPREP is very important tool for you to know where you stand at. Best of luck for GMAT. and dear you can run every company's online test on your mac.

Noted. I guess I'll borrow my cousin's.

I'm aiming for the mid 600s to 700. I hope that's possible. :|

Aj, thanks. I believe you can also use WINE on a mac, but is a rather complicated process (from what little I've read) to install.

Yes, CrossOver is for Macs. I'll try this.

As mentioned above by others mock practice is the key- not only to test your knowledge but also to test your temperament, stress level (remember actual test is pretty much long and mentally draining- as you would find in many debriefs out here). Also you have very good chance to improve to your target score if you get your basics right :)

Sorry forgot to mention on practice tests- stick to MGMAT and Gmat prep only (my personal opinion- one should avoid too many CAt's because of many reasons- you need time to evaluate what going with your test/s, once you categories your mistakes you need to revisit those concepts may be rather than jumping to another test)

Ok. Thanks for all your comments. What I've gathered from all of you is to use two sets of tests: MGMAT and GMATPrep.

I don't know if there's a specific order that I should take these (or even if it matters), but I've decided that I will take the 6 MGMAT tests first and then the 2 GMATPrep ones. After that I will once again take the real thing.

How does that sound? Is that okay or do you guys have a preferred way to achieve maximum results? Or more tests I should add? Any more information would be greatly appreciated. Also, what should my pacing be like? Does that matter at all? Thanks.
