Will I need to retake a 650 [V 42 Q 38 AW 4 IR 8] for HEC Paris?

American applicant w/ 10 years experience

Update:I am asking for feedback on my score, NOT for solicitation from Test Prep services.

For your profile 650 score is more than enough. GMAT has only 25% weight-age, Essays, Recommendations, work exp, and other things will have 75% weightage. HEC's average GMAT is 680 and range is 620-740. So, if you build your profile with great essays, strong recommendations, you will get admit. All the best.

lol.... it is an Admissions Consulting question really. A score is a score and since the range is 620 to 680, you could pull it off easily. However, it is not possible to answer the question without the rest of the picture. You probably would not make a decision about buying a house if all you could see was one room. The Adcom house has many rooms and they want to see them all (and outside too when they do a video interview). So while your GMAT room is OK with a lot of assumptions, the answer may change based on the rest.....

Good Luck!

Hi gpderivatives,

There's certainly no harm in retaking the GMAT - and you have the potential to pick up some serious points in the Quant section, so there's a certain logic in retesting. You mentioned how you were scoring higher on your practice CATs/mocks, so before I can offer you any advice for this next phase of your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied in total?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
4) What is your overall goal score?

You might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

Congratulations on your score. In addition to what was said above, I think you should look at other requirements for the schools of your choice. Package a good application and be optimistic. All the best.

Congrats on the admit and actually I'm also interested in more details as you have 10 years of experience. Do you know the average age of Class of 2021?

Hi Supratio,

A 650/Q49 is a strong Score, so it could be enough to get you into your first-choice School. You're ultimately asking Admissions questions though, so you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

https://gmatclub.com/forum/ask-admissio ... tants-124/

If you choose to retest though, then we have to examine how you were studying in more detail. Once you've decided on whether to retest or not, you should start a new post thread (instead of piggy-backing on this old one) and provide more details about your studies and goals or you can PM me directly and we can talk through your study options going forward.
