I'm sorry adrienfllttz that I have nothing of substance to add but I just had to comment on your v50.

V50 is immensely commendable. Would suggest using GC topic-wise tests for practicing Quant.

Hi, thank you very much for your reply, could you please clarify what you mean by "GC topic-wise tests" ?

Thanks a lot!

Hi all, I am looking to apply to the LBS MiM program during the third round (march) and wanted to have your take on the following question:

Some background information: I am an undergraduate student from the University of St. Gallen (HSG) and will likely have a final GPA of approx. 5.5/6.0 (likely in the top 3-5% of the class). I have about 8 months of experience (4 in asset management, 4 in strategy consulting) and am a Swiss and Canadian citizen.

I recently took the GMAT, scored a 690 (Q35, V50) and wanted to know whether you consider that this score is sufficient or not based on my background. I am a little worried that the admissions office could be skeptical of my low quantitative score. However, I have never had issues in typically quant-heavy courses throughout my undergraduate studies and this is clearly shown in my transcript. I am however really uncomfortable with the format of the GMAT quant section which is why I struggle so much.

Looking forward to your input on this, many thanks in advance for your help!

I think you could get away with that, but I see no reason why you whould not retake it. A V50 is very, very rare, and I am quite confident that you can boost your math score at least 10 points with some extra effort, especially if you usually fare well with numbers. Hence, you would be up within the 99th percentile, which will help you exponentially in MiM application, job hunt, and if you ever want to apply for an MBA in the closest five years.

Did you consistently on practice tests score V48-V50, and what did you usually score on Q?

And feel free to reach out if you want more input. Got into both INSEAD / LBS with a below average GMAT.

Thank you very much for your take on this! I've consistently scored upwards of V47 in the practice exams, and my quant score ranged between 38 and 47, with the latter probably being due to sheer luck (first attempt after two weeks of studying).

Okey, if you do not feel that there is a huge sacrifice in time / energy / money with taking another one, I would just do it to maximize the score. It is still quite some time left until R3 deadline, so you do have the time to do it as well.

If you are lucky, you might hit a 40+ on the Q and then you should hit 45+ on the verbal, which I would argue definitely will not be a gatekeeper, while there is a minimal chanche that Q35 could be.

Hi adrienfllttz, regarding your question for help with quant- I think the mgmat books are the best way to cement the basics. Even if you dont want to go through every one of them, I suggest doing so for atleast the topics which make you uncomfortable(after one gmat, you'd have a pretty good idea about these).
For ex: I hate geometry questions and hence to raise my score from a q48 in my last attempt, I am currently using the MGMAT geometry guide in detail and solving the end of chapter questions. Hope this helps:)

Hi adrienfllttz hope this finds you well

I am simply amazed at your Verbal score. Congratulations!

While you will surely draw the adcom's attention with your verbal score, you will also leave them wondering about your Q35 despite your finance and consulting background. Q35 is around the 20th percentile I believe. It is best to discuss your situation with an adcom member to showcase your interest and get a candid reaction to your quant score. They will be honest about it since you indeed have a good profile. Schools will look at your Quant and Verbal scores separately, therefore retaking the GMAT and getting a Q45+ will assuage any concerns the adcoms may have.

Best wishes!
