Hi all, I am looking to apply to the LBS MiM program during the third round (march) and wanted to have your take on the following question:
Some background information: I am an undergraduate student from the University of St. Gallen (HSG) and will likely have a final GPA of approx. 5.5/6.0 (likely in the top 3-5% of the class). I have about 8 months of experience (4 in asset management, 4 in strategy consulting) and am a Swiss and Canadian citizen.
I recently took the GMAT, scored a 690 (Q35, V50) and wanted to know whether you consider that this score is sufficient or not based on my background. I am a little worried that the admissions office could be skeptical of my low quantitative score. However, I have never had issues in typically quant-heavy courses throughout my undergraduate studies and this is clearly shown in my transcript. I am however really uncomfortable with the format of the GMAT quant section which is why I struggle so much.
Looking forward to your input on this, many thanks in advance for your help!
I think you could get away with that, but I see no reason why you whould not retake it. A V50 is very, very rare, and I am quite confident that you can boost your math score at least 10 points with some extra effort, especially if you usually fare well with numbers. Hence, you would be up within the 99th percentile, which will help you exponentially in MiM application, job hunt, and if you ever want to apply for an MBA in the closest five years.
Did you consistently on practice tests score V48-V50, and what did you usually score on Q?
And feel free to reach out if you want more input. Got into both INSEAD / LBS with a below average GMAT.
Thank you very much for your take on this! I've consistently scored upwards of V47 in the practice exams, and my quant score ranged between 38 and 47, with the latter probably being due to sheer luck (first attempt after two weeks of studying).
