I scored a 700 exactly (Q47, V40, IR8). I've been wrestling with whether I should retake the exam while I still have a solid foundation of the material. I don't plan on applying until later. I can only assume that scores will only go higher, so I'm thinking I should retake. The common theme from
mbaMission's book seems to be 700+ is enough to apply to the Top15 and focus on your parts of the app. However I do recognize I have a low GPA. My GMATPrep scores have been at 740 (Q49, V44), and I admit I don't have the best intangibles on test day, so I do always account for some drop-off. With that said, I do have some confidence I can score higher. Is there a separating difference between say - 720 over 700 or would I need to replicate that 740 in real conditions to make a significant difference in the AdCom's eyes?
Some background info -
Undergrad: US News Rank 25
Major: Business Administration / 3.3 (upward grade trend)
WE: 2nd tier Consulting (I'll have around 5 years exp by the time I apply)
Ethnicity: Asian Male
Extracurricular: Tutor/Mentor through work's internal initiatives, paid online tutor through undergrad affiliation (not sure if this counts as an EC since it is paid)
My dream school has always been Northwestern or Univ of Chicago, but I do know that is a long shot given the UG GPA. Is it worth retaking to match for Duke (Fuqua), UCLA (Anderson), UVA (Darden), UMich (Ross), or Cornell (Johnson) or should I stick with the 700 and focus on other parts of my application going forward? Thanks for your thoughts.
