Your verbal score is terrific. A 99% score will be very hard to repeat. On a retake, your verbal will likely go down, perhaps quite a bit. Is this worth it for you to retake just to up the quant score? Your UG performances in quant courses are very good and if you can write good essays, you may be a competitive candidate.

Hi Hovkial, Thanks for your input. That's the big question going through my mind! Thanks for your confidence - I'm just wondering if there will be a big red flag immediately pop-up when the admissions team sees a Q42 - or whether they don't even really consider the breakdown! I'll likely defer to experts, and will post back in this thread if I get some good insight. Cheers!

Would defer to an expert but if you could get your quant up to a 46-49 and get close to the 45 verbal then you could put up a jumbo gmat that will put you at least in the averages of these targets if not higher.

Other things not addressed are how many times you have taken this test / how many hours you’ve studied. Once again would defer to an expert here

Thanks for your reply. First time taking the test, though I spent many hours studying.

Agree with your points. I will likely retake with the ambition of maintaining the V45 and upping the Quant to that ballpark, but also will likely still apply even if I don't receive a better score.

Some (MBA) programs will be particular with breakdowns while others will take a more all around approach. With the latter approach, you can position yourself with your past excellent performances in advanced mathematical courses. You will have to target your application according to what the programs ask for.

A retake may improve your quant score (or not) and your verbal score will most likely drop. Be prepared for other outcomes than what you hope for. GL!
