Hey guys,
First off let me apologize because i imagine this question is asked all too often. However, I would really appreciate your opinion
I took the GMAT today for the first time and scored a 710 overall. I believe my Verbal score was in the 89th percentile and my Quant score was in the 79th percentile. Overall I scored in the 92nd percentile which I am quite happy with. I also expect at least a 4.5 in the AWA section.
What's really bothering me at this point is that I scored a dismal 3 on IR. I hadn't really practiced that question type much at all, and found the time to be way too tight, so I was forced to rush through it and basically lost my focus during that section.
If I aiming for a top 25 B-school for the 2016 intake, do you believe it would be worth retaking the test to try and improve my score on that section in particular. I'm quite exhausted after studying for the CFA in parallel but if The IR score will really hurt my chances for admission, I'll try to soldier on and retake within the next month or two while the information is still fresh in my head.
Just a brief background: I scored a 3.34 GPA @ Georgia Tech as a Mechanical Engineering major in 2010 and then made the switch to Finance/Banking and now have 4 years of experience at the the largest private bank in Egypt in the Debt Capital Markets - Institutional Banking division.

Absolutely not! You should not retake!!!!!
First of all no one really knows the effect of IR scores. All that is said is that it is 'considered' but in reality it has no effect. There maybe a correlation of high IR for Top schools because Top GMAT takers have Top scores for IR too, but it is not causation.
What you need to know is that school cares a lot more what the rankings/statistics say and IR is never accounted for in any ranking charts so it really has no influence over their decision.
The most important thing for your acceptance is your stats. GPA/GMAT and your profile. 'Profile' meaning your work experience/short term and long term goal.. aka your story. Perhaps this 'profile' weighs more than the GPA and GMAT because the GPA and GMAT is basically your qualifier. Schools need to know that you are going to be employable after you graduate this is the key. This is shown by your work experience. Second your short term and long term goals need to match your experience aka a plausible story. IF some kid writes that he has real estate experience and wants to make a career switch and get into MBB for consulting. It is going to be a hard sell (schools know that this kid might not be employable at MBB) so this kid might get dinged. But if the SAME kid says that he has real estate experience and wants to get into real estate development after graduation, this kid has a significantly higher chance of getting accepted.
Seriously you are over thinking it. Especially for a top 25 it is not going to make a difference. No matter what anybody else says dont retake it. It has .0000000001% influence over your profile.
The better thing to do is to understand the admission process and work on your execution of your application. AKA your story (long term and short term goals) this is KEY.

First off, a 710 is an outstanding score (it's right around the 90th percentile), so you have a score that would make pretty much any Business School happy. Since you attempted to quote the percentiles from memory, I'm curious about if you received an Unofficial Score Report after taking the GMAT?
To set your mind at ease, your IR score is a non-factor. Many Business Schools have publicly stated that they don't know how to evaluate an IR score relative to the other parts of the application, so the Business Schools essentially ignore that score altogether.
