First off, I know many people will scoff at this question but let me explain. I just wrote the GMAT for the first time about an hour ago and scored a 740 (Q49, V42, IR7). I accepted the score but want to know if it's worth retaking from both an admission perspective as well as a scholarship perspective.
Mainly, I am considering rewriting because I think I can do much better. On my last 3 practice tests I scored a 760 (Q50, V42, IR8), a 770 (Q50, V45, IR7) and a 770 (Q50, V45, IR8). I don't get nervous for exams and I usually perform really well on standardized exams. That being said, I got very little sleep last night as I was woken up very early and wasn't able to go back to sleep. I felt very tired all morning and didn't feel 100% once I got to the exam center. All in all, I was hoping to get a 760+ and am considering writing it again.
For reference, I sent the scores to HBS, Wharton, Columbia, INSEAD, and Kellogg. I also don't think I will apply until 2022 so I have plenty of time. I'm from Canada, have a 3.8 GPA from a fairly competitive school and relatively good work experience and OK extra curriculars (although I hope to build these out ahead of applying).
Couple questions - would a 760/770 on my 2nd attempt make a difference in terms of admission or scholarships at the above schools? If I rewrite and do worse, will schools view this negatively? Also do schools take an average of attempts and if so, is it worth cancelling my existing score retroactively?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and thank you to everyone on this forum. It's been a fantastic resource for me as I prepared.
