Hello Padfoot

Thanks for your reply and for clearing my doubts. I don't think I have practiced questions from the official GMAT prep PDF. The questions that I saw repeated were from mocks 1&2 which is why I was frustrated as I bought the official mocks 3-6 for a new set of questions. Anyways, I agree with you about taking the test again. So, do you suggest that I go with GMAT official mock 4 or should do some other mocks from other test prep companies?

Hie Akhil!!

PS: not an expert, but below is my reply on your query!
So coming to the test that I took today (30th July ) on GMAT prep I got a 750.

Things that I did that were not the same as test centre experience was only when I paused the exam while in verbal section for 10 min as there was a lot of noise at that time and I couldn’t concentrate much. Except that everything was pretty much good.

Other things I noticed were, as I prepared for verbal mostly on official materials, I think I’ve seen 2SC and 1-2CR questions before which made it easier. And in quant, I saw up to probably 4 questions that I’ve already solved before. Not different numbers exactly the same question.

Things to do:

1. Write mock in ideal exam condition, if you paused your exam because of noise, please do use earbuds, or noise reduction headphones, they will be provided to you if you book your exam at pearson or some good rating center

2. Never rely on Score in case if you have seen few questions. However, you can always learn a lot from each of your mocks.

3. DO WRITE GMAT PREP 3, 4, 5, and 6, incase, you dont feel confident. There is no harm in writing more mocks.

4. It's quite realistic that you have improved alot as you mentioned below, but then, to gauge yourself you must write a new and fresh mock soon.

5.DONOT PRACTICE WITH GMAT PREP PDF AVAILABLE ON GMATCLUB

6. PRACTICE ONLY OFFICIAL MATERIALS FYI, OFFICIAL QUESTIONS ARE ALL AVAILABLE QUESTIONS FROM ALL OFFICIAL AND REVIEW GUIDES
In CR- OVER 900 Q, In SC OVER 1200 Q, and In RC- OVER 200 PASSAGES

7. REVIEW YOUR MISTAKES ON WEEKLY BASIS AND MAINTAIN YOUR ERROR LOG

8. BOOK YOUR EXAM ONLY IF YOU PERFORM CONSISTENT ON MOCKS AND YOUR SCORE IS WITHIN 80%MEDIAN SCORE OF YOUR DESIRED SCHOOLS.

9. NOOOOOOO!!!!! GMAT NEVER REPEATS QUESTION FROM ANY OF THE MATERIAL YOU SEE OR YOU DO, CONCEPTS TESTED ON GMAT ARE, HOWEVER, SIMILAR TO WHAT YOU SEE IN OR DO FROM OFFICIAL GUIDES/ VERBAL REVIEWS/ GMAT PREP

i believe i have covered everything you need, however, since i am no expert, you may discard ,in case, if this reply does not suit you!

Hi experts,

I’m hoping you will be able to clear my doubts which would help boost my confidence for the next mocks.

Today I took my official mock test 3 and score a 750 (Q50, V40). Though I’m super satisfied with my score which is more than what I need for my target schools.

Here is where I’m coming from, The last mock I took i.e the official mock 2 and scored a 560 (Q39, V28) in the first week of June. After that, I studied a lot (almost 6 hours every day) and followed egmat’s learning process as I’m their student. It worked really when in a way that I’m more confident in SC and CR and In quant, I was able to get to 60-70% accuracy in hard questions. I was pretty confident before taking the mock on egmat platform. But sadly I scored a miserable 580(Q42, V28) on 19th July.

Though I was disappointed I didn’t want to give up I started preparing again with the analysis I got from egmat experts and started working on my weaknesses and revising concepts for almost 10 hours a day.

So keeping all these in mind I think the above 750 is an elevated score as I was just hoping to cross the 650 mark on this exam.

My questions are-

1. What’s the point when these tests should be the most accurate judgment of actual GMAT potential when they give repeat questions. Some of the questions were from GMAT prep mocks 1 and 2 which I revised two days before the exam

2. Can we expect any questions at all in the actual GMAT that are repeat?

3. Gmat quant felt like a cakewalk for me for the first time. (Yes, I have been solving tougher questions over past one week but this easy never did I get something like this in the previous mocks) so my question is should I be expecting actual gmat quant to be on this level (probably 1-2 questions that went over my head) or like GMAT club tests (which know are tough but this difference is like day and night)

So would love to hear your thoughts on this and how do you think I should go about maintaining this score (if you think it is accurate) for the next 2 weeks as I will be giving my GMAT by 15 August.

Thank you :)

Hello ScottTargetTestPrep,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I am planning to take it on 3rd August and yes I will try my best to adhere to test-like conditions. Again, should I take the GMAT official test mock 4 or do you should I try some other test prep company's mock test?

Hi akhilvarma8,

Although 750 may be a bit inflated it's still a good sign that you scored 100 points above your score goal. When do you plan to take your next official practice exam? Also, this time can you adhere to test-like conditions?

Update: I took the GMAT Prep mock 4 and scored a 720 (Q50, V38). This one felt really good as all quant questions were new to me and I was pretty confident in solving them. I at least had a basic idea of which specific concept was being tested in all of them. I think verbal RC was a bit difficult for me this time, but overall with no-repeat questions that I have seen before and getting a score of 720 makes me very happy and more confident in taking the test soon.
