A bag contains 4 white balls and 5 blue balls and a second bag contains 2 white balls and 4 blue balls. A ball is picked from first bag and placed in the second bag and a ball is then picked from second bag. What is the probability that ball picked from second bag is a blue ball ?
A. 2/3
B. 3/7
C. 26/63
D. 37/63
E. None of these
When we pick up the ball from the first bag, what matters to us is whether it is blue..
(I) If it is blue... Probability = 5/9
Second bag now contains 2 W and 4+1 B, so probability of B is 5/7..
Probability that B is picked from 1st bag and then B is picked from 2nd bag = 5/9*5/7=25/63
(II) If it is NOT blue... Probability = 4/9
Second bag now contains 2+1 W and 4 B, so probability of B is 4/7..
Probability that B is NOT picked from 1st bag and then B is picked from 2nd bag = 4/9*4/7=16/63
Total P = 25/63+16/63=41/63
