A current psychological theory seeks to explain how children become adept at making excuses, when excuses are symptomatic of a psychological problem, and what personality type is most prone to rely on excuses.

(A) what personality type is most prone to rely
(B) what is the personality type most prone to relying
(C) the personality type most prone to reliance
(D) the type of personality most prone to relying
(E) the type of personality that is most prone to rely

Split between What and the personality

1."the personality" is Wrong - Its not parallel with the non-underlined portion. - C D E -OUT
Also if you observe the end of all options given only "to rely" is right because its showing intention plus its parallel with "to explain"
2.Between A and B
B is wrong because of parallelism error also because "to relying" - here we should use "to rely"
"to rely: has a infinitive marker "prone" which tells us to use "to rely"
Usually to + ing is used when "to acts as preposition "

A is CORRECT
