A large ship moving at 14 mph in the river has an investigator cater swimming beside it. Investigator cater sets out to survey 70 miles downstream in the direction that the ship is headed. If the cater's speed is 28 mph, how much time will the cater spend surveying and coming back to the ship?

I. Investigator cater ?? : Something say A
@ 28 mph, it will travel 70 miles in 2.5 hours or 2 hours and 30 minutes.
II. Ship, say B
In 2.5 hours, B has also traveled 14*2.5 or 35 miles 14 mph.
Distance between A and B is 70-35 or 35 miles.
When both travel towards each other, combined speed = 14+28 = 42 mph.
They will cover 35 miles in \(\frac{35}{42}*60=50\) minutes.
Total 2 hour 30 minutes + 50 minutes = 3 hours 20 minutes.

total time it will take for the Cater to cover 70 miles ;
70/28 ; 2.5 hrs ; 2hrs 30 mins
in that time ship would have covered 17*2.5 ; 35 miles
distance left between ship & cater is 35 miles
relative speed opposite direction ; 14+28 ; 42 mph
time it would take to meet ; 35/42 ; .83*60; 50 mins
total time Cater spent ; 2 hrs : 30+50 ; 2hrs :80 mins ; or 3 hrs 20 mins
