A logistics company reviewed 32 delivery routes completed during a certain week, with 8 routes originating from each of four depots: North, South, East, and West. For each route, the graph shows the route distance and the number of packages delivered. Different symbols identify the depot from which each route originated.
The data are designed so that shorter routes tend, in general, to have more deliveries, but with substantial variation among individual routes.
Use the drop-down menus to complete each statement so that it is consistent with the information provided.
The median route distance among all 32 routes was kilometers.
Among the routes on which at least 220 packages were delivered, Depot had the greatest average (arithmetic mean) route distance.

The median route distance among all 32 routes was kilometers.
Among the routes on which at least 220 packages were delivered, Depot had the greatest average (arithmetic mean) route distance.
Official Solution:
Drop-down 1:
There are 32 routes, so the median is the average of the 16th and 17th route distances when the routes are ordered from shortest to longest.
Reading the graph from left to right, the 16th route is at 50 km. The next route distance is 60 km, so the 17th route is at 60 km.
Thus:
(50 + 60)/2 = 55
Therefore, the median route distance is 55 kilometers.
Answer: 55.
Drop-down 2:
First, consider only the points on or above the 220-package level.
From the graph, the qualifying routes for South are concentrated at relatively short distances, so South cannot have the greatest average route distance. The same is true for North. The main comparison is therefore between East and West.
For East, the qualifying route distances are:
30, 40, 50, 60
Their average is:
(30 + 40 + 50 + 60)/4 = 45
For West, the qualifying route distances are:
20, 40, 60, 70, 80
Their average is:
(20 + 40 + 60 + 70 + 80)/5 = 54
Since 54 > 45, West has the greatest average route distance among the routes on which at least 220 packages were delivered.
