This is a weighted average question.

Ratio of "lean" ground beef to "super-lean" ground beef = 5:2

x=lean
y=super lean
10%x + 3%y=8% (x+y)

10%-8% = +2
3%-8%= -5

2(5) -5(2)

Thus x/y=5/2 , A

Use the weighted average concept:

w1/w2 = (A2 - Aavg)/(Aavg - A1)

wL/wSL = (3 - 8)/(8 - 10) = 5/2

Answer (A)

We can create the equation in which x = the amount of lean ground beef and y = the amount of super lean ground beef:

0.1x + 0.03y = 0.08(x + y)

10x + 3y = 8x + 8y

2x = 5y

x/y = 5/2

Answer: A
