Question : What is the surface area of the whole cube?

To answer this question either we need dimension of smaller cubes of dimension of bigger cube

Statement 1: The surface area of the Rubik cube is 6 times the area of its base.

By property of cubes (all 6 faces equal), Total surface are = 6* area of any one face hence this statement doesn't offer us any information hence

NOT SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: The surface area of each of the smaller cubes is 6.
i.e. 6b^2 = 6
i.e. b = 1
i.e. side of bigger cube = 3*1 = 3

SUFFICIENT

A Rubik cube is composed of 27 identical smaller cubes. What is the surface area of the whole cube?

so there are 3 smaller cubes in each of the dimensions - length, breadth and height
surface area of each face is therefore same. surface are of whole cube is equal to 6* area of each face, as there are 6 faces in a cube

(1) The surface area of the Rubik cube is 6 times the area of its base.
insuff

(2) The surface area of each of the smaller cubes is 6.
total surface area = 6*6=36 square units
sufficient
