Paul,
Let me give you my background first
24 y.o. White Male
Education: Private Midwestern University ranked well within the Midwest.
B.A. in International Studies / Minor: Asian Studies GPA:3.17; the Last three Semesters my GPA was 3.4.
I also studied abroad in three different countries for 3 months in each on average.
Extracurricular: Studied abroad; student senate; volunteered at a local elementary school helping children with their reading comprehension; hurricane Katrina volunteer over fall break; executive member of an international affairs organization in college; intramural sports; social fraternity (including 2 positions of leadership); volunteered in foreign countries while studying abroad.
I have learned Spanish relatively well and I am currently learning Mandarin.
After college I had a checkered start to my professional life. First, I took a insurance sales position, but decided a couple months into it that I wanted to serve my country and so I joined the military. Between insurance and waiting to leave for the military I worked as a manager at a fitness center to pay the bills. After joining the military and being in for a few months I was medically discharged. I love to travel and I want to learn Mandarin fluently, so I have been considering going abroad to teach English for a couple of years. Will I be able to apply and be accepted to a decent business school with this background? Or, should I forget wanting to go abroad and teach English if I truly want to get into a top 25 business school? It should be noted that I want to enter either international business, or finance. with this background would a certain GMAT score would it be possible for me to get into a top 25? I took a practice test and scored a 690.
