Answer is C for correctly keeping the comparative idiom "more likely than" and for maintaining the infinitive parallelism'to give and to receive".

I said C.

I took out D and E because of the use of 'it'. The use of 'it' is vague and there is a lot of misdirection to what 'it' means.
I took out B due to the misuse of 'four times as'. This should be 'four times more' when evaluating magnitude.
I took out A because of the word 'as'. You are comparing the elderly financial aid to their children's financial aid. In this case, 'than' should be used for comparison.

According to a recent study, the elderly in the United States are four times more likely to give regular financial aid to their children as to receive it from them.


(A) the elderly in the United States are four times more likely to give regular financial aid to their children as
* four times more………..as; It’s a comparative. So, “than” has to be used instead of “as”.

(B) the elderly in the United States are four times as likely to give regular financial aid to their children as it is for them
* “four times” indicates comparative.
* "as likely to give regular financial aid……… as it is for them". And also, here, parallel structure has not been maintained.

(C) the elderly in the United States are four times more likely to give regular financial aid to their children than (correct)

(D) it is four times more likely for the elderly in the United States to give regular financial aid to their children than they are
* Here, “introductory It” is absurd when the main subject is clearly appeared.

(E) it is four times as likely that the elderly in the United States will give their children regular financial aid as they are
* Same as D.
