Maastricht92, here are the 'best' ECs for college admissions.

However, if you are aiming R2, frankly there isn't much time to build the profile. The focus should be on presenting and packaging what you have in the best possible manner.

Hope this makes sense.

Hi all,

thanks for your input.

Building on your responses: I already have some extracurriculars where I took some leadership roles, particularly during my undergraduate degree. The question is whether "more" would significantly benefit my application. To give a specific example: I have run half-marathons and climbed a 4,000m+ mountain. Would adding a full marathon now increase chances significantly?

The contrasting answer to above suggestion would be to fully focus on my GMAT which I have not taken by now - and seems to the key determinant factor.

Hi Maastrich92,

Even if you are targeting Round 2 , there is not much time left to begin a new activity. If you have time, you may go for a full marathon.

However, since you have not taken GMAT so far, I would recommend focusing on GMAT prep now , earn a 730+ score and get it out of your way . Then work on other key components of your application , that is, create a stellar resume, build stories for compelling essays, and work with your recommenders for LORs. All these components of the MBA application package take longer than most applicants anticipate.

Good luck with your application.

Maastricht92, I'd second that. GMAT is one of the factors that is a lot more in your immediate span of control. Starting something new on ECs front is unlikely to mean much or create much impact. Besides, team related activities have more mileage in MBA applications, generally speaking.
