Actual GMAT 570 .. Shocking

I appeared for the GMAT exam and scored 570 which was quite surprising for me . The various data points are as follows

High % of difficult questions

I need help and advice on the way forward and understand where is the gap . I can come down to discuss with you as well as your GMAT instructors( if required) to decide the way forward .

Few points which I also wish to clarify are as under

1. Order take in Mock as well as GMAT is the same .. V, Q, IR , AWA
2. Exam was given at 9 am which is more or less the time of the mock exams also 
3.No major disturbance at the centre 
4 Sleep was normal 
5. Nerves were there at the time of the exam .. Knew verbal has not gone alright which could have some impact on the Q score
6.Have done appx 1400 question each in Quant and verbal with accuracy of 85% in Quant and 80% in verbal 
 
Please help in deciding the way forward

Hi,

On the basis of what you've shared, my first guess is that you just had a bad day.
The drop in your Verbal scores (from 40s and 30s to 24) is not normal and likely reflects the nerves you mentioned you had more than your ability.
This is especially likely as you started off with Verbal, so probably you started off poorly (because of nerves) and everything went downhill from there.

Usually, in your case I would recommend that you cancel your score and retake the GMAT as soon as possible. I would also usually recommend that you purchase the extra exam packs so you can take a few more tests before the official date. However, as you maybe know, the GMAT has officially changed to a new format this week which is 30 minutes shorter in total and has less questions on both Quant and Verbal. See  our blog  on the subject for more details or look at the relevant posts on GMATclub. As such, I would still retake the exam, however I would consider scheduling it for a bit later on. That is, not ASAP but sometime in the beginning of May, so you (and everyone else) has enough time to see what the new GMAT is really like. Also, it might be better to wait for the new official exam packs to come out (which they've promised will happen by the end of the month) before buying and practicing on them.

Bottom line - you probably had a bad day, happens to everyone! (Was this your first GMAT?) Take a deep breath and try again but keep in mind that the test is a bit different now so your pacing might need to change a bit.

I am also attaching my ESR . Does it throw some insight . I feel like continuing my practice and wait for new Prep Mock . I may take exam in May end or june

Not really... try not to worry too much.
Note that if you are planning to wait a month and a half before the next exam you will likely forget things.
Take the time to review material with flashcards or some other preferred method and make sure you get back into GMAT shape before the actual exam.

Shocking indeed Rajan. A 150+ point difference between your average GMATPrep scores and your actual score.

By any chance, is it possible that you had already solved few questions of GMATPrep (before taking the GMATPrep)?

Also, it seems you appeared in two GMATPreps (scores of 770 and 720). There are four more available (though not free). You might want to attempt those as well. If you consistently score well in those as well, then clearly your actual performance in the exam is not reflective of your preparation.

I took the test today....
performance was pathetic...
was scoring 730 gmat prep test 2
710 gmat prep test 1 
no retakes....
and score is actual gmat -600
i just dont understand

Hi ! Thanks for the feedback. You r right ..in the mock test including gmat prep I had 12 to 15 repeat questions out of 78 . This is unavoidable as I solved 1200 + questions in quantity and verbal each . Source was gmat club . Don,t know how much of this had influenced the score .
