Hi Experts,

I have a query regarding the application process. How is an Indian female from a non-technical background considered while applying to the US B-schools? I know India is an over-represented country but women in business especially from India are always under-represented. I want to understand how the application of an Indian woman from a non-technical background is to be considered. And, also what should be our target Gmat score to get admission and a scholarship?

Thank you.
Pooja
Hi @poojaarora1818,Thank you for reaching out with your query!

You’re right in noting that Indian applicants are often considered an over-represented group in the pool of US business school applications. However, being an Indian female from a non-technical background can indeed be an advantage. Women in business, especially from India, are still under-represented, and many US business schools are keen to increase diversity in their classrooms. They value unique perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds, which can help you stand out in the application process.

When applying to US B-schools, it's essential to highlight your unique experiences and how they have shaped your personal and professional journey. Showcasing your leadership qualities, resilience, and potential to contribute to the school's community will strengthen your application. Additionally, emphasizing any cross-cultural experiences, volunteer work, or initiatives that demonstrate your commitment to your field or community can make your profile more compelling.

Regarding the GMAT score, while there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer, aiming for a score above 700 generally puts you in a competitive range for top-tier business schools. However, remember that the GMAT is just one component of the application. Admissions committees take a holistic approach, considering your professional achievements, academic background, essays, recommendations, and interviews. Achieving a strong GMAT score, paired with a well-rounded application, can also enhance your chances of securing scholarships.

We would love to assist you further in crafting a strong application strategy tailored to your background and aspirations. Please feel free to book a free consultation with our experts for personalized guidance. You can also get in touch with our team via call at +91 7780769732. We look forward to helping you on your journey to business school!
Thank you so much for such a detailed response. I appreciate the guidance and support that I have received from you. I have to take the Gmat test most probably by the end of September or by the beginning of October. And my target Gmat score is 760. Once I am done with the test I will reach out to you for further guidance and support in the Round 2 application process.

Thank you,
Pooja
