Where are you guys planning to live during your 2 yrs at Fuqua ?

I keep hearing that majority of Fuqua students live at either Station 9 or Alexon Place.

One of my friends at Sanford school of Public Policy lives in a townhome 1 mile from Sanford, and unbelievably the rent is only $700, however need to check in what condition that townhome is. Sanford is next to Fuqua, so if anybody with family wants to live real close and pay less, this may be a good option.

Skitalets mentioned the cheap rent for homes here.

I looked at Station 9 and the rent is pretty dam high for Durham! If you check out apartmentratings.com they list a range of $975 - $1285 for a 1 bath/1 bedroom apartment! I'm renting a 2 bed/1.5 bath in CT for $1200/month.

I'm looking for something in between the really cheap, old apartments that rent for $600 and Station 9. The only thing with renting a house is the cost of utilities, especially A/C in the summer.

I'm pretty sure I'll be joining y'all in Durham next year.

My two cents - don't bother with Station 9. The rents are high for the area, mostly because they cater to out-of-town students from metropolitan areas who are used to much higher prices and think they're getting a deal. $700 will get you a nice place in Durham, though if you want to live alone or in much nicer circumstances than most grad students, that'll change.

I totally agree about Station 9. My wife and I lived there for her first two years of law school, and while it's nice, you're paying more than you get in value. And while it was very nice when it first opened, they are not keeping up on the maintenance.

If anyone might be interested in sharing a townhouse somewhere in biking distance of Fuqua, let me know -- I might be interested. My wife's going to be in DC, so I'm looking to get a studio or share a house with someone. Hoping to figure something out during BDW or soon after.

I'm definitely leaning toward Fuqua. I want to go into biotech/medical devices operations so obviously Fuqua would be great for that. My only problem is that I may get a full-tuition scholly from Darden or Ross (applied through the Consortium and won't find out til early March). Decisions decisions.

Rates for Station 9 are outrageously high, can't believe that this place is in Durham :). I can't shell out more than 800 for a 1B/B.
Skitalets, I shall be living with my wife, so count me out, my bad :)

I see there is an increased number of people interested in the HSM program.. Obama's interest in the health sector anything to do with this ?

Hey saltdawg218, in case you get a full scholly from either Darden/Ross, I'd suggest asking Duke for more.

Off topic, but...

I doubt it. If anything, Obama's plans would probably make a lot of people reconsider health care. Further regulation will only tighten the market even more.

Just look the difference in salary for doctors in Canada and the US!

Well at least one area is going to get lot of money and that is health information technology, Obama is pretty bent on this.

NC state has just committed $265m to get a Medicaid payment system; and I guess several other states are going to follow suit.

However, not sure whether MBAs will get benefitted from it or not.

Good point! That is sure to be a growth area under the Obama administration.

Well some things are better left unsaid :); for one, she may be paying the bills during that period, you won't.

I just got a call from a first year student who invited me to BDW and asked if I had any questions. I was able to get a "tentative" schedule for the weekend (at least how it was last year):

Friday - afternoon registration, social activity in the evening
Sat - all day on campus, career forums, class visits (?) then a dinner and more socializing
Sun - organized tours of near-campus and no-so-near-campus housing, wrap up by noon

I got a call about BDW too. The first year pretty much told me the same agenda but there's actually an additional event on Thursday night for prospective minority students hosted by the Black/Latino club. If that applies to any folks here, you may want to make travel arrangements for a day earlier.

I too got a call from a current student, willing to answer any question.
Wicked me told him that I would compile everything and send an email. Waiting for the BDW now.
