Quick question (apologies if this is covered elsewhere): is the financial aid submission supposed to be made after you decide to go to the program? From what I understand, most of the scholarship and grants are given after you submit for financial aid, but it's tough to decide on a program before you know about scholarships and grants.

The submission date for financial aid is in mid-April, if I remember correctly. But you have until early May to accept/decline the offer. So that would imply that you can apply for financial aid before notifying them of your decision. Seems strange, but I'm sure you could call to verify this (I'm planning to accept the offer regardless, otherwise I'd make the call myself).

I called and you had it right.

Who didn't have it right was the admissions director, who is quoted as saying on a ClearAdmit chat transcript that scholarship opportunities are available to 1Y students (albeit in relatively lesser numbers than for 2Y/MMM). Turns out that's not the case.

Crucial question to any international matriculating student:

How do you pay the frickin' deposit?

As of 2009, Kellogg does not accept any payment method but:

- Money order
- Check drawn from a US bank
- Traveler's cheques

So this means:

- No credit card
- No AMEX
- No Paypal
- No wire transfer

An international money order is going to cost me, between exchange rates and commissions, $1650 to get $1500 to a Kellogg office which probably is in a space-time loophole, having remained in the 19th century.

How do you do it? I am wordless.

PayPal the $1500 to a friend in the US who gets you a $2 money order at the post office in Cleveland, San Diego, etc.?

Weird they don't make it easier for you.

One of the best quotes I have ever seen on this board.

I got a demand draft drawn up and sent it in with the tuition deposit slip. It worked fine. They recieved it 2 weeks ago and I got the e-mail confirming it. I think that's probably the best way to do it.

Yellowjacket,

can you clarify what you mean by "demand draft"? Whichi country do you live in? I'll look into something similar for Italy if it exists.

Thanks,

P.

As far as I believe, you can get a demand draft made at any bank or many exchange place (like a western union). Further, you can get a draft made in any currency (like USD).

I got the draft made in Dubai. I am pretty sure a similar facility would exist in Italy.

Hey guys, I have a couple of questions regarding financial aid at Kellogg:

- Do most incoming students typically receive some type of scholarship and/or grant from Kellogg?
- What's the average amount?

Thanks!

Thanks for the info yellowjacket, I resorted to AmEx traveller cheques, and between commissions, insurance, exchange rate and shipping I am paying about $130 more than I should and could.

55-60% of students on financial aid get some sort of scholarship/grant from the school.
They range from 5k to fulltuition. Outside of named scholarships your financial need plays a factor into it.

Guys you should do a search or read through threads before asking questions that have been covered tons of times, you could get your answers immediately without even having to ask them.

What I can't seem to find out is whether that statistic also applies to internationals.

Gil its for all people on need based aid, so internationals who get aid would be in that group. However, I dont know if they would be at the same rate or if they bring down the rate for Americans or what. From what we saw last year here, Kellogg definitely was the most generous in terms of the number of people getting something. Ross gave out a several of 20k per year while Kellogg gave out basically 5-15k to almost everyone of us who got in.

Can anyone remind me what password to use for your email? My activation password and the one I set for the admitted students website doesn't seem to work. I couldn't find anything about it on the admitted students website. Sorry. :(
